Passport is going to expire .. ?

Hi , hopefully someone could give me a hint.
Our inland sponsorship application is ready but my husband (sponsor) 's passport is gonna expire in September so if we send our application now is that an issue? Does my husband need to renew his passport before summiting our application? Thank you !

sorry i didn't give enough information but he doesn't need to get his pr since he is Canadian citizen.

The sponsor does not require a passport, just the applicant does.
