My U.S. passport which was used at entry into Canada expired in September 2012. The stamped entry date was June 1, 2012. Normally, the visitor status would expire Dec 1, 2012. I already got a new passport in August 2012 which I obtained via a U.S. consulate in Canada. I am wondering whether the expiry of my passport has any bearing on when the visitor status ends. In other words, does visitor status expire as usual (Dec 1 in my case). Or did it expire when my passport expired? 
I have both passports in my hand.
I'm concerned because I'm about to submit an application for extension and need to understand whether I'm out of status or what. Thanks!
