Hi everyone,

I am an international student currently studying in Canada. Due to COVID, I started my program part-time in fall 2020 in my own country. According to the IRCC website, to be eligible for a PGWP, students need to study full-time except for the last term in Canada; students who studied part-time in spring and summer 2020 because of COVID are exempted from this requirement. I found it not very fair to students like me who cannot study full-time in fall 2020 due to COVID. But I don't know what I should do now.

Does anyone have similar experiences with me? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Well, first, why did you take part-time? By the fall semester, all the schools already adjusted themselves to online studies. Unless your school authorized it, you should be okay; if not, you will just need to start a new course to cancel the old one.

Hi, I started part-time because of the time difference, and I also didn't have a study permit at the time. My supervisor suggested I only take one course in fall 2020. What do you mean to start a new course and cancel the old one?

In your case, you will explain; I am sure VO will understand.

There is a case where students take part-time between the semester or even have unscheduled breaks; their eligibility for PGWP is not met, so they take another course to overshadow the old one. So, VO will use a new course to determine eligibility.

Thank you very much for your help. I hope VO can understand my situation.
