Hi,

I want to apply for 10 year super visa for my parents, just want to know it requires insurance coverage during their entire stay. Is that mandatory? I have to purchase that for them? THanks.

Yes - it's mandatory. See the requirements on this page:

As Scylla replied. :D, It is a good business for Insurance Companies.

Proof that you have private medical insurance valid for a minimum of one year from a Canadian insurance company and that:
Covers health care, hospitalization and repatriation;
Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000; and
is valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by a port of entry officer.

Thanks for reply guys. You said I need to purchase minimum a year insurance, but I guess they only come visit for three weeks. That's way too much. Could you find more links regarding parents super visa insurance policy from CIC website? I couldn't find any. Thanks.

If they only come visit for three weeks, don't get the super visa, get a regular multiple visa instead! Insurance is not mandatory for the regular visa.

Thanks everyone. One more questions, my parents will come visit very often in next few years but each visit won't stay very long. I am thinking Super Visa will be a better options instead of apply for visitor visa for them each time they visit. My question if I get super visa for them, they just need make sure has a minimum one year valid insurance upon their entry. In other words, they won't need apply for anything else besides the insurance? THanks.

I repeat again. Don't get the super visa. Get the regular multiple visa. Once approved, your parents won't have to apply the visa for the next few years and each visit are up to six months. Besides, you don't have to buy a year insurance and meet LICO.

If they get a Super Visa, the process is much quicker, and even if they have to pay the full year up front, there are proportionate refunds available from most companies. For more info check out http://www.dfsinc.ca if you need more details.

To me, to get an regular visitor visa is not easy.

Is easier to get a SUPER VISA (multiple-entry), the insurance is not mandatory if your parents will visit you for less than 6 months.
*You must meet the LOW INCOME CUT-OFF
FOR EXAMPLE: If your Family size is 4 persons (you, your wife and yours parents) ......... the LICO (low income cut-off) must be $41.307

*Invitation letter es mandatory.

Visiting Canada: Parent and Grandparent Super Visa — How to apply:

In order to obtain a Parent or Grandparent Super Visa, you also need to provide:
•Evidence of the parent or grandparent relationship to the Canadian citizen or permanent resident you wish to visit (e.g., birth certificate, baptismal certificate or other official document naming you as parent);
•A letter of invitation from your child or grandchild that includes arrangements for care and support and indicates the number of people residing in their household in Canada (mandatory);
•Proof from your child or grandchild that he or she meets the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO); and
•Proof that you have private medical insurance valid for a minimum of one year from a Canadian insurance company and that: ◦Covers health care, hospitalization and repatriation;
◦Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000; and
◦is valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by a port of entry officer.

Note: You will be required to undergo an immigration medical examination in order to come to Canada. Instructions on completing the examination will be provided to you by the visa office. You are not required to complete the examination before you submit your application forms.[/color]

Sorry, Supervisa. I am a bit confused here. Why you say it is harder for you to attain super visa rather than regular visitor visa? Could you also quote any info regarding insurance for Super visa is optional if parents stay in Canada less than 6 months? Thanks.

Can you link to where this is stated ?

CIC / OP11 etc?

From the CIC site:

Proof that you have private medical insurance valid for a minimum of one year from a Canadian insurance company and that:
Covers health care, hospitalization and repatriation;
Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000; and
is valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by a port of entry officer.

The CIC is VERY CLEAR - the Insurance MUST be in place for a minimum of one year. Sorry SuperVisa, but you are mistaken.
