It is exciting times for us but I have a few worries on how I will manage financially living in Canada as unfortunately I will have to get my own accommodation as my daughter does not have the room for my to live with with the family long term.In 2008 when we applied, the Canadian dollar was 2 to the British pound and it has now lost a quarter of that value. I will be hard pushed to live on my pensions without getting a job of some kind but at age 62 not sure if that would even be possible. I wonder how all the other parents/grandparents of this forum will manage with housing etc. Will most of them be able to stay with their family? I have always been able to support myself and I would reluctant to ask my daughter for any financial assistance although she and her husband are technically supposed to support me for 10 years. I will try and stay positive, however.
Hi Granma Nessie: My mom will be staying with us. Her pension would not be enough to buy groceries for a week for one person. However, we are lucky to have plenty of room for everyone in our house here. When we were poor students with a child back in our home country, she took care of all of us in her place, so we could get our degrees and raise a child while earning no money at all. It is our time now to pay back. Moreover, in addition to our day jobs, we have also started a new business. She is welcome to work there (if she wants to), as we know it is important for her to feel independent and have her own savings. I wish you all the best in also finding a solution that works for your family.

There is actually not much age discrimination in Canada. You can do the job, you got the job. I don't know what kind of experience you have or what you would like to do but even if you have few skills, I often see older ladies working at Tim Hortons (donut shops). I am sure if you work at a call centre, nobody cares about your age either. Of course the province also matters. If you go to a high unemployment area, it is of course harder, not just for the older but for everybody.

Thank you , Kandel, for your good wishes. I see your application went in a day after mine in 2008 so , although we are going through different LVOs, I hope it isn't too long till you get your own medical requests.

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
In order to assess this application, updated copies of the items listed below are requested. Please note that if we do not receive the items listed below within 60 days of the date on this letter, this application may be refused.
• Application form (IMM008) for yourself
A Schedule A form for you and one for all accompanying dependants over the age of 18.
• An Additional Family Information form (IMM5406) for you and for all accompanying dependants over the age of 18.
The correct forms are all available online at: www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/famcls.asp
• The documents listed in the below Document Checklist for Family Class – Parents & Grandparents
I got same wording except A schedule A it is 1, so I am going to conseder it as typo error and going to fill same as others.

Thanks User828, I appreciate you reply in detail.

Hi Sana7
What a wonderful warm welcome your mum will have being in the heart of the family soon. It is lovely that you can repay her for her past support in such a caring way. I hope the New Year brings you much happiness.

Hi Leon,
Yes, I don't mind working in Tim Hortons or Walmart if needbe and sometimes the oldies are more reliable than the youngsters. I will be living in Georgetown, Ontario and would have to get something very local as I won't be able to afford a car.

Hi there all.

Ecas changed in the last day or so, is now showing "medical results have been received" under status "application received". Any feedback on what, if anything, this means for our timeline

thanks

This means, the medicals are passed. Next step is "Application Received" will change for "Decision Made" (with or without "In Process" in between) and then the request for for passports will arrive. You are very close, congrats!

Hi Leon: This is true but would be harder for those older grandparents or those from non-English speaking countries.

Hira i did not notice that everyone from jan-may 2008 got medical request except me and user828.
I was thinking there are few other people except us but its just me and user828 :( :(
I really have very bad luck
first they did not ask me for additional documents
second they took 5 months to approve me as a sponsor (again others were getting ahead of me)
third i never got AOR from ND so far whereas some got it within a week/month
now aggain i did not get medical request??? :'( this is not fair really not fair
is there any guarantee that they will include me in second batch? NO
I m feeling dumb not to notice this before even after noticing what can i do? NOTHING greatt
i m just done with this BS :'(
