Hi RajaJi, did you order FOSS or CAIPS? Did you have your parents signed consent? At what stage is your parents application? Transferred already?

I do not have parents' signed consent yet (need to be mailed from their home country and I do not feel like paying courier costs, will do reg mail).
I know that to access CAIPS records (overseas, for parents), I would need to submit their consent for sure.

But I am wondering: if I order at least FOSS for now, would I be able to see whatever was recorded in mississauga under my UCI and sponsorship application ? Or will they not give me much info because it pertains to both me and my parents (thus their consent is still needed).

What about the submitted Use of representative form? If I already mailed it to Mississauga, would htey not consider it enough to release at least FOSS files?

Hello Anik:

I requested for Caips/GCMS under PRIVACY ACT. There is no charge if requestor is a Canadian CItizen or PR or a person present in Canada.
If you are an authorized representative and have already submitted the representative form, you may request under Accees to Information Act. There is a $5.00 fee for it. It takes about 30 days to get the information.

CIC has changed the format of the form begining this month. A link to the form is posted below:

Goodluck!

based on CIC: Requests for personal information not belonging to the requester must be made under the Access to Information Act.
so if you want to get info about YOUR case - then it can be Privacy act and it's free. If it's about somebody else - then it's Access to Information Act and it's $5.

If you are a Citizen or PR or a person present inCanada and enclose a consent form you can request the information for others under PRIVACY ACt and it is no charge.

so you did not include your parents consent form, did you? And still got your sponsorship file info ? Even though it kind of involve other people as well - even at the first stage?

I guess I am just wondering what will happen if I order foss for my sponsorship stage 1 records without including parents' consent. Will it include only part of information?

Shuga, you ordered both, so on your CD were you able to distinguish which information is FOSS and which is CAIPS?

To my knowledge when you request information about yourself it is called privacy act and there is no charge, when you request information about someone else (in my case when I applied for my sister CAIPS) it is called access to information act, you will need consent form (or to be a representative) and it costs 5 CAD. If you are not sure you can call them and leave your number and question, they will call you back (they did in my case) but about a week later. I don't remember what number I called, I will post it when I remember.

What did you pick in Section A and B of the form?

If you are a representative, you should not need consent. At least, at the provincial level it is always like that under the "Freedom of INformation and Protection of Privacy Act." I hope Federal acts are similar.
