Hello All - I am looking for your expert opinions.

My parents recently went for their medical exam and the radiologist found some linear and mottled opacities in my dad's chest x-ray. Panel physician referred him for sputum test and told him once the sputum test results come back then he will refer him again to a pulmonologist. Once pulmonologist give him a clearance certificate then they will upload it to CIC.

In the meantime, my father went for a second opinion and doctors told him his x-rays and test results do not suggest TB. Unfortunately panel physician does not want to listen to other physicians.

Now I am so scared as I read some posts where the pulmonologist and Panel physician recommended 6 months treatment though the applicants' sputum test came back negative as well as did not have any symptoms at al. If that happens in my dad's case, can we contact with IRCC RMO directly and provide them all the opinions we got from other physicians? As my father is diabetic so I don't want to make things complicated.

Also he has valid visitor visa, can I bring him here and check up by a Canadian panel physician?

Thank you.

Never heard of anyone having to do 6 months of treatment if sputum test was negative. There may be concerns of other pulmonary issues if his sputum test is negative. IRCC requires a sputum test and repeat x-ray if anything abnormal is found on a chest x-ray. If your father is diabetic you should be concerned about his kidney function.

Thank you for your reply. His creatinine and HBA1c results came back as normal. I will wait for the sputum results then. I am very tensed as in worst case scenario if he needs to take any TB medication, it may affect his kidney as these drugs have strong side effects.

There would be no reason to justify needing TB treatment if the sputum test is negative. Sputum test plus repeat x-ray that looks the same or better is all the proof needed that he doesn’t have TB. If he doesn’t have TB it is justified to require a visit to the pulmonologist to rule out other respiratory conditions.

Thank you. My dad will go for the sputum early next week.

Just wondering, if the sputum test comes back positive, will they reject my parents application? Sorry for asking so many questions. I am so worried about their medical exam now, so many bad things are coming in my mind.

If positive the application will be put on hold until treatment is completed and repeat sputum test is negative and chest x-ray looks the same or better.

Hello, I applied for my mom on Super visa and she did upfront medical on Feb 23 and got request for additional tests bcz she has Hepatitis while she completed all process on Mar 24.
We submitted online application on Mar15 and got biometric on March 16. Now we got medical request on April 1 while we submit upfront medical proof and also confirm from CIC panel in Pakistan that they submitted her medical on March 24. Can u please what should we do now with the medical request which we got now?

Within a week after giving samples, today the clinic called and told us that its positive on the sputum test. They are now recommending following up with a specialist and taking TB medication. I am now so much tense if they submit these results to CIC, will they reject my parent's PR application? Is there anything I can do, not to get any refusal letter? Please help.

Treatment is quite long and difficult. Usually a minimum of 6 months. Your parents application will be put on hold until he is negative for TB and will then have to repeat sputum test and lung x-ray.

My dad did the sputum testing at the clinic panel physician referred and the smear results came back positive. In the meantime, he went to a different clinic and did sputum smear testing which came back negative. He will be going to see the TB specialist next week.

Will it be worthy to show the negative test results to the specialist? Are there any chances that the clinic (panel physician is referring) gave false positive results?

We are currently following whatever panel physician is asking us to do. However, I am really stressed out with all these different results.

As long as there isn’t some sort of corruption involved it is likely a sample issue. Many are not able to give a good enough sample to do the test properly. The pulmonologist will be able to look at the pathology reports to get more information

Now my mom got additional test request on May 5 from RMO. I am not sure what type of tests they are requesting. In her initial medical results, creatinine was 0.9, x-ray no abnormality, all the other tests were normal but bp was 170/100.

She has hypertension for last couple of years and takes bp medicine daily. I guess doctor will refer my mom to cardiologist. I am not sure what type of extra tests they will do and what will happen with my mom’s medical.

Update: so I talked to the panel physician and they said IRCC requested for IGRA test for my mom as my Dad has been diagnosed positive for TB.
