PGP2025 application

My Father received a medical request letter today - 20 Oct 2026.

His biometrics happened in March 2026.

What stage of the application are we at? Its so confusing the IRCC portal shows 27 months... but things seem to be moving :).

Just wanted to understand the steps and where we are at in the process.
Just speaking from experience, but the wait for you is AT LEAST two more years unfortunately. Ofc it depends on the case...and I am not an expert

This could be his first medical. It is not uncommon to have to repeat a medical right before landing. For seniors having to do a medical early on in the process leaves time to request additional testing or for TB testing which takes many months. You are still very early on in processing and background checks is typically the longest part of processing. In most cases it is not the background checks that take a long time it is the wait in a queue to have your background check done which takes a long time. Whether there is a change in PGP quota for 2027 will also influence processing time. The levels plan for immigration will be announced within the next month. Would plan for processing to take around 3 years but celebrate if he gets PR in less than 3 years. Would prepare that there may be no movement in his file for over a year at times. Remember that he is lucky that he has had the opportunity to apply for PGP no matter how long processing may take. There are hundreds of thousands of other applicants who would like to be in your father’s position.
Thanks for the response.

I was under the impression medical = end of wait (file near clearing).

So you think that there is still a ~3 year wait before the PR gets issued?
Just FYI - Biometrics are also done in March 2026

There is some variability but would plan on a total of 3 years of processing time.

Based on the 2024 and 2023 processing times, it's all hit or miss.
A lot of people were processed within 1.5-2 years, others are still waiting.

Everyone is different.

For example; My citizenship took 21 months to be granted whereas 3 of my close friends, coming from the same country, same age and pretty much same profile took them only 7-8 months and we all applied back in 2023 in the same month.

Hi everyone,

I submitted my mom’s application on August 18, 2025. When I checked her GCKey account on October 16, it showed: “October 17, 2026: You have passed the medical exam.” She had completed her medical exam in 2022 when we applied for her super visa.

Since October 19, 2026, the medical review section has been blank. We also haven’t received the pre-arrival letter yet.

She received a biometrics request in February 2026 and completed her biometrics on February 11, 2026. However, under “Details about your application status,” her GCKey account still says: “We have not received your fingerprints. Check your biometrics request below for details.” Under “Application information,” it shows her biometrics enrolment date as February 11, 2026.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I contact IRCC?

Applicants for PR need to complete another medical if they completed a medical for a TRV. Given processing times of around 3 years most have to complete more than one medical. Typically the last one occurs at the end of processing so it can remain valid before parents land as PRs. Most don’t follow their application so frequently that they notice small changes like stating medical had been passed for a few days before returning to blank. It appears that you have passed your medical and this is an IT error that sometimes happens but just to be 100% sure I would send in a webform asking for clarification about whether biometrics have been completed of not. You will then have the response in writing. Pre-arrival occurs anytime after sponsor eligibility is passed which doesn’t appear to have been completed yet. You at the very early stages of processing so it makes sense why you haven’t received pre-arrival yet. PGP processing is very slow so there will be long periods of time when nothing happens.
