https://www.canada.ca/en/services/immigration-citizenship/helpcentre/glossary.html#dependent_child

Dependant: spouse, common-law partner or dependent child of a permanent resident or principal applicant.
Dependent child
A child who is under the maximum age and is not married or in a common law relationship. Generally, to qualify as dependants, children must
  • be under 22 years old
  • not have a spouse or common-law partner
Note: a child’s age is usually “locked in” when we get a complete application.
Use our online tool to check if your child qualifies as a dependant.
Exception: Children who are at the age limit or older can qualify as “over-age” dependants if they
  • have depended on their parents for financial support since before they reached the age limit and
  • can’t financially support themselves due to a mental or physical condition
Previous age limits:
The age limit has changed in recent years. If your application has been in process for a while, one of the older definitions of dependent child may apply. Generally, we use the rules in place when we get your complete application. Previous age limits for a dependent child:
  • From August 1, 2014 to October 23, 2017: under 19 years old
  • On or before July 31, 2014: under 22 years old
Note: The rules for over-age dependants are different for applications that were submitted on or before July 31, 2014.

Thanks for sharing the resource. By no means of killing people's buzz I just want to again highlight the following rule as per latest IRCC guideline:

"You are exempt from the current travel restrictions and can come to Canada if you have a valid COPR and:

  • the COPR was issued on or before March 18, 2020 OR
  • the COPR was issued after March 18th, 2020 and you are an immediate family member sponsored by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (note that grandparents are not considered immediate family members and cannot come to Canada at this time) OR
  • you’re currently living in the U.S. and will be coming to Canada directly (transiting through the U.S. to Canada doesn’t apply)
An immediate family member is defined as a
While people may interpret the rule differently, it is made clear to me that it's speaking from the perspective of the sponsor, not principal applicant. This would mean spouse/common-law partner/dependent child/dependent child of a dependent child/parent/step-parent/guardian or tutor to the sponsor who is a Canadian citizien or PR. The sponsor's siblings (or the dependent child of the PA) fall outside of this definition.

It was misunderstanding. Yup his/her brother still a dependant of this application and can come to canada to get PR BUT due to covid19 Canada has limited people can travel to Canada. We are talking about he/she can come WITH parents AT SAME TIME.

Hi everyone,

Need your help. My father is living here in Canada on supervisa.

We received a letter from NewYork Office to send passport for PPR for visa stamping in 30 days.

However, we received another email letter from Etobicoke Landing office saying that as you are already in Canada you application is complete and you are now a permanent resident of Canada. You can use this letter as proof of permanent residence and apply for government services. Send this letter copy and photo to get your PR card.

Does anyone else has experience with virtual landings and do I still need to send his passport to Ottawa office?

forward the letter from Etobicoke to the office in NY. They will let you know what is next. Even done.

Hi All,

1. Does anyone know how long the immigration visa lasts from the moment they give the visa to the moment the immigrant has to land in Canada?

2. Also, if the immigration process started outside of Canada, what challenges are there if we have our parent come to Canada now on visitor visa and we finish the process from Canada. We are in the middle of the medical examination step, right now.

thanks,

for my first question I found some information on the following website: https://www.immigration.ca/visa-validity#:~:text=In most cases, an applicant, statutory undertakings have been approved.
It looks like the immigration visa expiry date will be same as expiry date for medical examination. And since medical examination processing takes about 2-3 months the immigration visa might be open for as long as 9-10 months.

We have copr issued 19th March2020,so clearly we fall in the category of those who can't travel due to travel restrictions imposed by Canada. Now There is canada.ca notification of 18th August 2020 which mentioned that those whose Copr is approved after 18h March but are the immidiate family members of Canadian citizen are exempted from travel restrictions are exempted and prior permission is not needed. Our daughter, who sponsored,is Canada's citizen.our Copr is valid up to 18th October. We want to live with our daughter there. Can we book the tickets for Canada to join our daughter there. Hope you will guide properly about the 18/8/2020 notification, whether it still in force . thanks

Parents are considered immediate family members and exempt from restrictions even with COPR issued after March 18

Hi, I received AOR from the London VO a couple of days ago. No changes to the eCas. Does that mean that the London VO has started working again? When do I expect to receive additional stuff such as medical request etc. from them? Thanks
