Paper Application - how do you get a code to check status online??

I am sending today. Finally got the payment receipt printed and sending today (as soon as I find the address to send it to)

Do CIC send me a written confirmation in the mail that they received it with a file number? How do I get a file#?? Or is the receipt barcode # from the payment etc? The payment didn't ask for any name of the applicant etc so I don't think its somehow linked to the file (which has not been sent yet).

How do I get a file # so I can check the status online?

When you mail it be sure and get a "tracking" for it that way you can check to see if your package made it to Mississauga. After it gets there it can take 8 weeks or more and then the Sponsor will receive an email (if an email is provided in application) or mail, and that will be your AOR. This will have a UCI# & an Application #, you can use this information to check the status online.

I sent by courier (Purolator) so it has a tracking# and signature required. And will reach them end of day tomorrow.
Now the wait starts. I keep going over in my head did I send enough photos etc. Some of the photos since we had travelled by ourselves I had to take a photo of him, and then he took photo of me LOL. So I explained that. But there are also photos of both of us together places (including top of the world's highest motorable road together camel rides, pony rides, shikara boat rides etc. And the marriage I am not worried about as all his relatives and friends were there, we have tons of photos from that, invitation, the Gurdwara marriage certificate, the legal registration from India, a newspaper clipping from next day where Youth Hostel Association of India congratulated us (he volunteers with NGOs including them). We sent all his education certificates, awards from all kinds of volunteer work etc (to show his credibility) and there are a LOT of those LOL. His travel history which were to represent India at several award things internationally, my previous Indian Visas from when I went to visit him, my military leave pass from the wedding trip showing that my Commanding Officer was aware I was going to be married, all our email history (I didn't send the actual content but screenshots of the inbox showing the titles. I dont feel they need to read personal emails) Phone history (its a phone card online service but it shows last months usage showing every single day we spoke for over an hour plus history of purchases right back to 3 years ago). Even included our very first email to each other on the matrimonial site we met through. This was to show we have a history of more than 2 years since initially we communicated through there. (matrimonial site is geared for Sikhs to find suitable match and is NOT an internet dating site - but hoping that CIC don't look down on us for meeting that way).

I guess I am just a bag of nerves!

Join January 2015 application thread. It will be easier to track timeline together with other people and when to expect to receive some news.
