Hi everyone,

I have a question about the nikkahnama copies. as you may know, there are 4 copies of it, marked original, duplicate, triplicate, and quadruplicate. Each has original signatures and original stamps/attestations.

my question is, when applying for spouse, do i need to send the one marked "original"? i have not received the one marked original from Pakistan. mine says duplicate, but it has all the original signatures taken at the ceremony.

looking for an answer from Pakistani's who have applied for spousal sponsorship with or without the one marked "original".

All are fine. Any one of these four works. Duplicate is good enough. Submit a notarized certified copy of this along with a certified translation and an affidavit of true translation.

Thank you for the answer! My nikkahnama is in English already. There was no Urdu version. There should be no problem right?

I will also be submitting the nadra marriage license.

Shouldnt be a problem. Both urdu and English are the same. In the unlikely event of them asking for Urdu one you can explain that the English one is as legal a nikkah nama as urdu.

A lot of applicants have been asked for Urdu Nikkah Nama during the process An applicant i know from Pakistan who did not provide Urdu NN (because they didnt have any) was sent an additional doc request to provide Urdu NN because the checklist at that time (Sep 2016) said "Urdu NN plus english translation). So they provided an explanation that they didnt have any Urdu NN in the first place because of the following reasons:

(1) Urdu NN and English NN are both original legal documents and any of them can be used to legalise the marriage (they included an email from a lawyer as a proof
(2) The sponsor was not well versed in written urdu therefore s/he preferred to sign NN in a language s/he could understand
(3) At the time of the Nikkah they did not know that Urdu NN was a requirement for spousal sponsorship and they thought that an English version would be good enough to serve the purpose.

This explanation worked and they were asked no more.

I would recommend you to provide an explanation and reasons of not having an Urdu NN upfront , with the application package to avoid any requests from London Visa Office later in the process.
