Probably you might not get the money you have paid. If you have signed any retainer agreement then you owe him that amount too.

Think you dont have much of an option here. Read through your agreement on what you have signed. We had to pay in stages and there was an option for us that if we were not satisfied with his services we could break from the contract. Check if you have any clauses like that. Also are you based in Canada ?

Usually they have a special consultant access to manage multiple clients, so no, only they can access your profile.

This is it: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/portal.asp

It depends about your knowledge, adroitness and the expertise of the lawyer itself.
Hard to tell, but if you don't want to spend tons of hours learning about the process and details from scratch, and the lawyer is good, then I would say yes.
Also, if you have some unclear/more complicated situation than usual (possible criminal inadmissibility or smthn) then it's also good to have it.

Well i did a background research about the consultant I went with. When I went for the initial consultation itself I asked questions like how many cases are you working on currently and what was his success rates like etc. So far my experience with him has been good. The reason I went for with this lawyer was that I had a bit of a complicated case.

In my case only he had access to the profile but he was polite enough to update me with screenshots of my profile whenever I have requested him
