Odd question: When you had a work permit in the past, and then it expired: When you go to get your SIN card updated/renewed, after getting a new OWP: Is the SIN number the same as the old one you had before, or is it a new number? For reference it is in the same Province.

Your temporary SIN (that begins with #9) remains with you until you become a PR. Your permanent SIN will start with whatever number is assigned to your Province. In BC, permanent SIN begins with #7.
