So we're going over the checklist to make sure we have it all. And we are now confused and annoyed about a couple of things...

I am sponsoring my American husband outland. On his IMM5406E Additional Family Members form, he has included his wife (ME, the sponsor), one brother, one sister and my daughter (his step-daughter) as currently living family members--his parents are also included, but they are both deceased. Other than his sister's daughter (his niece—we don't need to put her, do we?), this is everyone.

Question #1:

Okay so, the above is all well and good. But then in the supporting documents section, the checklist says he needs to include:

IDENTITY AND CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS
Provide birth certificates, baptismal certificates, national identity card or certificate (Cedula) where available, or other official document confirming relationship (including all pages of Household Registries) for you and each of your family members.
If you are married, you must include a marriage certificate. If you are now divorced, you must include final divorce certificates; if separated, a separation certificate. If your marriage was annuled, a copy of the annulment. If your former spouse or common-law partner is deceased, you must include your spouse’s or partner’s death certificate. Photocopy of Citizenship Certificate or Immigrant or Permanent Resident Visa for any family members who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
If you are in a common-law or conjugal relationship, provide proof of that relationship

I am assuming that “for you and each of your family members” means everyone listed on the IMM5406E Additional Family Members form. If this is correct, am I to understand that he needs to provide:

A: Birth Certificates for himself, me, his brother, his sister, and my daughter? How about his dead parents—do they want those Birth Certificates, too?

B: Our Marriage Certificate

C: And then they also want citizenship certificates for me and my daughter? I don't have one of those, and as far as I know, neither does my daughter--we were born here, why do we need that?

Question #2:

PHOTOS
Supply two (2) recent photos for each member of your family and yourself. Follow the instructions in Appendix B: Photo Specifications.

Again, I can only assume that "each member of your family" means everyone included on your IMM5406E Additional Family Members form. Thus, we will need recent photos of my husband, me, his brother, his sister, my daughter, and somehow, his dead parents.

But I mean... We need to ask my sister and brother in law for their birth certificates an get their photos taken? I don't know if they're going to go for that. And my husband's deceased parents' birth certificates? How the heck would we get those? Having their pictures taken would be quite impossible at this point, as they have been dead for 10 years. And my daughter's birth certificate and citizenship certificates for her and I? And pictures of us? Really? This is going to take more months of asking for and applying for things and paying and waiting for them. And it's only my husband applying for PR—his brother and sister aren't ever going to apply, my kid was born here and lives here, I was born here and live here, and my husband's parents are quite buried in Louisiana, so they aren't going anywhere.

This all seems a bit nuts :/

Question #3:

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS AND PASSPORTS
Passports or travel documents for you, your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children. Include only copies of pages showing the passport number, date of issue and expiration, your photo, name, surname (family name), date and place of birth. Children must have their own passport, separate from their parents. If you reside in a country different from your nationality, include a copy of your visa for the country in which you currently reside. Please note that all prospective immigrants must hold a valid regular passport; diplomatic, official or public affairs passports are not valid for an application for permanent residence in Canada.

So from my understanding we need:

A: My husband's passport and his current TRV for Canada, good until June 30th 2017, (although he technically doesn't “reside” here yet, right?)

B: My passport—BUT I don't have a valid passport at the moment, and I was pretty sure the sponsor isn't required to have a passport. Am I wrong? If so, will my expired passport do (or do we get to save for months so I can pay to get the stupid thing for no other reason than this—I'm not leaving the country, probably ever again)?

My daughter isn't a dependent (she's 19 and doesn't live with us), so I'm assuming we won't need her passport (I hope not, because she's not speaking to me, so I can't get that). Is this a correct assumption?

Any help is greatly appreciated... We're getting pretty frustrated with not being able to understand what we need to include for this part :( The fact that the checklist is generic for many kinds of immigration is making everything really difficult to understand for our spousal kind. We've been at this for months and it seems like every time we think we're nearly done, there's something bloody else. And in this case, it seems like the something elses are really unnecessary.

Thank you for reading!!! I hope someone is kind enough to provide some answers!

1. You assume incorrectly. "Family members" refers only to the non-Canadian dependents of the Principal Applicant. Only your husband must provide those documents.

2. As above, incorrect. Only your husband needs photos.

3. Only your husband's passport is needed. As an American, he doesn't qualify for a TRV, so I assume you are referring to a Visitor Record.
