I applied for my wife's outland Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) on July 16, 2026, but unfortunately, the application was refused on September 24, 2026. We did a re-application on October 18, 2026.

The current processing time is approximately 11 weeks, which would put our expected decision date around January 3, 2027.

I have a few questions for those who have experienced a similar situation:
  1. Is a reapplication after refusal generally processed faster than a fresh application, or does it usually take the same amount of time?
  2. Has anyone received a decision earlier than the standard processing time after reapplying? If so, could you please share your timeline?
  3. Since biometrics and medical examinations were completed during the first application, can IRCC reuse those results for the second application?
  4. What about background checks? Are they carried over from the previous application, or can IRCC conduct them again?
I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who reapplied for an outland SOWP after a refusal and can share their timelines for the second application.

Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences!

IRCC may be able to reuse valid biometrics and medical results, depending on the circumstances, but background checks may be reviewed again. Hopefully, your wife's second application will be successful and processed soon.

Are you a PR or citizen? If so I assume you have received AOR from the sponsorship application. If you are on a work permit when does the work permit expire? Saw in another post that you work in a TEER 1 job.
