I applied for my wife's outland Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP) on July 16, 2026, but unfortunately, the application was refused on September 24, 2026. We did a re-application on October 18, 2026.
The current processing time is approximately 11 weeks, which would put our expected decision date around January 3, 2027.
I have a few questions for those who have experienced a similar situation:
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences!

I have a few questions for those who have experienced a similar situation:
- Is a reapplication after refusal generally processed faster than a fresh application, or does it usually take the same amount of time?
- Has anyone received a decision earlier than the standard processing time after reapplying? If so, could you please share your timeline?
- Since biometrics and medical examinations were completed during the first application, can IRCC reuse those results for the second application?
- What about background checks? Are they carried over from the previous application, or can IRCC conduct them again?
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences!
