Had a bit of a bad head this morning, but stayed in bed until hangover was gone, note to self 'don't let husband pour me vodka drinks if wanting to minimise hangover time'. New day today and things not so bad of course.

Thanks everyone for the support, I thought I must not have been the only person this had happened to and just to let you know, I still have an ongoing 'disagreement' with my husband's mother, who is adamant that if only we had of been married in Canada and not in the UK we would not have had to go through any of the immigration business, as I would have automatically have become a citizen and could have work straight away.

I gave up on that 'discussion' after explaining it about 10 times and just agree now!

Am off to Calgary for the day tomorrow, which will be fun, or at least a bit of a change, but a long drive there and back in one day, but will be nice to spent with hubby and that's what I've got to remember this is all about, I get to spend my life and time with him.

Ahhh bless....

The good news is, you did not marry the mother in law ;D ;D

Hi MandiF,

Glad things are looking better today...if a bit fuzzy ;) 'Hair of the dog' I'm always told, though I've never managed to drink the morning after drinking a bit 'too much'. Enjoy your day in Calgary with your hubby!

Nice whitehorsejk!

MandiF - I am suprised your husband didn't offer you a ceasar to shake it off! If you don't know what it is .. it is a very Canadian drink.. from east to coast you can see them topped with anything from celery to pickled asparagus or beans!! Works.. everytime!

Mmmm hair of the dog not good for me, but its after 5pm now, so maybe will relook at the Pinot Grigio ;D

Oh and have tried ceasars, but too chewy for me, I like to drink my drinks, not eat them - very strange Canadian drink, will have to get used to it!
:D

God I am so sick of people saying "So, once you get approved, you can have dual citizenship right?"

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CITIZENSHIP!!!! IT'S JUST A GREEN CARD!!!

Yes, but given most of my fellow Americans don't know what 'PR' or 'permanent residency' means, I choose to say 'green card'. Unfortunately, most people know what a US Green Card is, given all the drama and publicity stemming from our southern border (Mexican immigrants entering illegally, without first obtaining a green card).

Gotcha. Yeah, green card is a more well known term. We should pick a nickname for the Canadian PR card. Red card? Maple card? This-Process-Nearly-Drove-Me-Insane card?

Love this thread.

I had no idea that the immigration process was this hard before I started it - but as rjesome mentioned - my empathy for others going through immigration or family issues has grown exponentially already.

I have been lucky to find many people around me who have been through immigration in one form or another. .... although most not anywhere near as complicated as mine or the ones on this forum, and sometimes they are the ones that cause the most grief (although unintentional). My father went through immigration for instance, but in his time it was a simple matter of them running up the points at the border and sending him through.... how i wish we could just go back to those times.

The part that makes the spousal sponsorship so hard is the 'concern' others have for your relationship - saying or just implying they are worried that you might be being 'used'... and yet they don't put this 'concern' towards people marrying fellow Canadians where there could be similar benefits gained. But anyway, i hate having to 'justify' my relationship... I love him, end of story.
