Hi all,

My wife did a request for an Option C for 2013 - the first time she must have hit a button incorrectly because she got some other document. When I visited a couple of weeks ago, we went through the process again and I did it this time. Even though the phone tree said to received an Option C report for 2013 hit whatever number, she got the report today and it is for 2014, which shows nothing because she hasn't filed yet.

We hate to continue waiting around (we've already done it for a couple of other reasons), but it seems to me that without an Option C, it's pretty worthless to submit anything, correct? I think she's still a bit away from filing and I also have no clue how long it would take to get into the system once she does file so we could wind up with the right paperwork.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

i just sent 2013 one, i didn't either filed yet either. I gave 2013 notice of assessment, pay stubs, job letter.
My option c is arriving in the mail, but hasn't arrived yet. So if they ask then I will give them option-c

Hi

Send the app with the blank 2014 Option C and an explanation that she had requested 2013 but CRA sent the wrong one. State that you will forward the 2013 one to CIC as soon as it arrives.

So should she request the 2013 again? That seems like a bit of an exercise in futility, at least using the automated system. But waiting for 2014 seems like it's going to set us back at least a month.

Rock, meet hard place.. :-[

If they ask for the 2013, then send it because you don't have your application number yet. They can't track the file for you if they haven't looked at it. Order your 2013 option c just in case. I should get mine next week.

Yes, she should request the 2013 one again. The safest thing to do would be to call CRA and make the request to an actual person. Don't bother waiting to send your app; as I said, send it with the blank 2014 one and an explanation.

Thanks for the advice. What we're going to do is call tomorrow and try to get an actual person, but hold off on sending everything until we get the right Option C. She's retired so there isn't a ton of other stuff that she can send in aside from the Notice of Assessment - since we know they'll just come back and ask for the Option C anyway, I figure this will work better. I think I'd rather wait for a week or two for the right thing than have them come back asking for it and delaying things for a month at such a critical stage. Plus I've been the one doing all the paperwork for us and when I was there a couple of weeks ago I left all the checklists and a cover letter that said the Option C is included. All that would have to be re-done and she's have to have make sure it went into the right places in the packets I put together before I came back to the U.S.

Just a quick update - she called CRA this morning, talked with an actual person and they are sending out the 2013 Option C tomorrow. So if anyone else runs into the same issue, I'd recommend skipping the automated system and going to a real person. She called right away when they opened at 9:00 and it took about 6 tries to get through.
