Option C Printout

Hey all,

I will not be including an Option C Printout with my application (I am only sponsoring my wife, so there is no requirement to prove anything). Here is what I have written. Please give me some feedback on whether this will suffice:

Please note that I have not included an “Option C Printout” with this application. I called Revenue Canada, but they said the last tax record they have is from 1997. This makes sense, as I have been a non-resident for tax purposes since 2001. All world income has been taxed in the local domicile(s) where I have resided since leaving Canada.

Include proof of your income from the last year and the Chinese tax "Option C" equivalent.

The thing is, I don't know when I will receive the official records from the Chinese tax authorities for the year 2011. I may not receive it before sending my application. Is it absolutely necessary, from CIC's perspective, that I provide this documentation? Or will the statements I received from my employer suffice? I have tax records for previous years (2006-2010), but they spelled my name wrong. I asked the director of foreign affairs to sort this out, but I have been waiting months and still nothing. Will this be a problem and how much weight does CIC put on the Option C records?

In the document checklist it just says to write an explanation, but nowhere does it say that I must provide tax records from the local tax authorities. This is frustrating because I have done everything accord to the law, but due to the incompetence of certain individuals, I have no real proof in my hands that show my real name!

Any thoughts or feedback?

I do have "Employee Statement of Earnings and Benefits" for every year I have worked for my current employer. It is not an official document from the government, but it does show all my income and the taxes paid. It also has the signature of the director. Will these documents work for me, or will CIC reject these because they are not from the Chinese tax authorities?

I think the "Employee Statement of Earnings and Benefits" would be a good thing to add (from the latest year you have one). The official Chinese tax forms are not necessary - it is just that if you can't supply the Option C, then supplying what you can from China instead is a good idea. But not necessary. You have a good explanation for why you don't have an Option C; anything else from the Chinese side is just to 'shore up' your proof.

One more thing, I do have a official tax document from the Chinese authorities, but it is from 2010 (the only one where they spelled my name correctly). The 2011 official tax document will be released between March and May of this year. I'm sending my application on April 3, so if I don't receive it before then, I can explain that in my explanation letter to CIC. I am so stressed about this...you have no idea. I am going to include the following in support of why I have not submitted an Option C (though actually I do have the Option C, but it only shows tax information from 1997 - and the person I spoke to at Revenue Canada said this is useless because CIC will want to see something current...for obvious reasons):

1. Statement of Earnings from my employer since 2006. It outlines my income and taxes paid with the director's signature;
2. Pay stubs from August 2011 to present (I don't have anything before that date, but I might be able to get them if the foreign affairs director can expedite my request);
3. Copies of all my employment contracts since 2006;
4. A letter from my current employer stating my period of employment and hours (they would not put any $$ info in this letter for whatever reason);
5. A job offer letter (CAD$70,000 / year) - this is through one of my dad's good friends, so it is a for sure thing;
6. A confirmation letter from Athabasca University showing that I am currently enrolled (including my school ID number);
7. E-mails with different banks enquiring about a mortgage + e-mails from realty companies showing different houses in the area I want to live with pricing info;
8. A notarized translation of my 2010 tax document from the Chinese tax authorities;
9. A very long explanation letter detailing all my employment history and my plans for moving to Canada and I plan to settle;
10. A letter from my parents offering my family a place to stay until we can secure a loan and buy a house;

That's about it. This is my future we're talking about, but not just mine, my wife's and son's...so nothing can go wrong!!! I really can't take living in China for another 8 years!!! There's no way...I'll end up going insane!

What do you think? Enough proof????

It's enough proof.
CIC actually states it wants an employment letter stating your period of employment, hours, and salary, so #4 is needed in any case; since they wouldn't put your salary on it, #1 is needed to show that. The 2010 tax document can be sent in if you don't get the 2011 one in time - this would be the same case in Canada, where we would not have our Option C yet from the 2011 tax year.
I would send everything you've listed, just to be safe, but it certainly sounds like more than enough info for CIC about your income and ability to support your family in Canada.

The letter in which you refer is for those who must meet minimum income requirements, no? Item 18 on the document checklist..but this doesn't apply to my case, however, I thought it would be a good idea to get it anyway.

19 is for the people who must meet income requirements. But I think it is a good idea to include all this evidence anyway, to show there is not going to be any issues with supporting your family.
