Open Work Permit

Its been a long road, but I finally got my first letter from Immigration Canada- I applied inland for spousal PR last June '10.
The letter says I may now apply for an open work permit, (or study permit but I just want to work at this point.)
Can anyone tell me the steps of doing this please?
I once heard that there's "fast" way of doing it through unit 555, but I have no idea what that means.

The manual PMM sent me says that I require a "job offer letter or contract from your prospective employer". I thought that an Open Work Permit means that I don't need to have a job offer before receiving the work permit. Which is correct?

when you have an open work permit you don't need to have an offer from an employer
