Open Work Permit After Sending in Application

I (US Citizen) am currently not living with my husband (Canadian), so we are applying for PR outland. I'm really upset to find out that I won't be able to apply for an open work permit so that I can live with him and work while my PR application is being processed.

I planned on going back up to live with him in October. By then my PR application will have been turned in. Will I still be able to apply separately for an open work permit at that time? I just want to be able to live with him and work while my PR app is being processed but I'm not sure what to do.

You can only apply for OWP with INLAND spousal sponsorship..........OUTLAND spousal sponsorship is not eligible for OWP.

As a US citizen you are visitor visa exempt to Canada and allowed to stay for 6 months and could apply to extend your visitor visa.....you could come to visit in Canada while your outland sponsorship is been processed but can't work........when your PR is approved, only then you could work won't need a work permit.

No you can't. No way around it.

At best, you can only enter under 'dual intent' as a visitor and so unable to work - provided you retain ties back to the US and can convince CBSA that you can and will return to the US in the unlikely events of a refusal.

You say you haven't yet applied.. Is inland not an option for you? You would obviously have to be living here in Canada when you submit it but you'd have OWP within 3-4 months, give or take.

Inland isn't really an option for me anytime in the next few months, sadly.
