Thanks ddq and O_Canada for your valuable comments

here are the main reason that makes me want to take the step of moving to Canada

1- I am Iraqi living in Iraq (if you watch the news you should have a clue about how life is risky in terms of security)
2- I already have a good job in Iraq (telecom software field) , I am optimistic about my chances to get a job there
3- My kids will join school soon , and I do not want to confuse them by joining school in Iraq and then moving to Canada
4- Iraq have no rules restrictions about sending passports by DHL...if the PR got approved
5- I am going to face the difficulties of job hunting sooner or later , with or without PR
6- I am in my thirties of age , I think time is valuable in terms of starting a new life

Appreciate your comments
Hi Hadeel1234,

You have valid Points and a quick look shows that most of your points are on the +ive side of following scale.

3----+----2----+----1----+----0----+----1----+----2----+----3
^
(-ive) | (+ive)

Just jot down all the points on the following scale and see which side is heavy as per your priorities / situation and that will make you more confident about your decision.

As I said someone might be in USA on H1, Someone might be in Australia / europe on WP or other developed countries abroad where they are earning well and gaining international experience in the field of their expertise and they don't wanna loose their current opportunities in search for a survival job in Canada.

Every one's case is different. Like I was in India ( luckily Law and Order situation is not that bad like middle east ) and had many good opportunities of working in another countries through international assignments of my previous employer then I might be feeling like a fool if I had discarded those opportunities and came to Canada in search for a good life and then eventually landed in a survival job ?

I have seen many people who take leave without pay from their present jobs in home country, Come to Canada to complete their landing for PR and then after getting their PR cards ( within 3-4 months ) they go back to home country . Then they plan their trip once again when they make up their mind that how they are going to survive here without good job / with survival jobs or they wanna study further or any other settlement plans.

Hi Friends,

Can someone please tell me how long does it take to get the 2nd AOR? I received my first AOR in the start of May. I'm still waiting for 2nd AOR from NDVO after almost 5 months.

I'm really worried. The thing is I came to US 2-3 months ago on L1 visa along with my family. I've not updated Canada immigration about the same because 1st AOR mentioned that alll updates should directly be sent to Visa Office. But I don't have acknowledgement from visa office so I don't know how should I update them.

Do you think not updating Canada Immigration/CIO is a problem and potential reason of the delay?
Please suggest what should I do.

Thanks,
-Can

If you have mentioned NDVO as visa office and have file no, then you can update them.

Moreover you can also update address on cic website.

Dear All,

I have few suggestions for those who are planning / coming to Canada either on OWP or PR. They can take some proactive step which might help to find suitable job.

Everyone is worried about the jobs, will might think & try to search job before coming to Canada. Even if you try to search while you are abroad then may not get positive response.

Below steps might help to find job (while you are abroad) or atleast expedite once you landed to Canada.
• Research Canadian Job Market.
• Research on Job Title, might be in Canada your title may have different meaning or have different title for your job, hence try to research on job titles versus responsibilities/duties.
• Change resume format with respect to Canadian Market.
• Very much important, mentioned main keywords in your resume which are mentioned in Job description/requirement.
• Try to get local contact No and mension in your resume. There are few services (like Fongo, Comwave & Majicjack), who gives Canadian No, you can install their applications on your mobile. If anyone calls you on this no then it will get in your mobile (like skype etc). In this way they will understand you are in Canada, which will also give you little confidence about job demand in your field. They also provide voice mail option, which can come to your email as well. Using their applications, you can also call Canada free or as local call (it depends on options you have selected).

I will recommend to start this exercise 3 to 4 month before coming to Canada. I am not saying with these steps you will find the job, but ofcourse expedite the process.

Hi,

If you open the FAQ link (https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/redir.do?redir=faq) of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, you will find the answer in Q2 - How is the residence requirement for citizenship calculated. When you're staying in Canada under OWP, every day of your stay until you receive the PR status, is counted as 0.5 days.

You become eligible for citizenship after you've stayed 3 years (1095 days) in Canada as a permanent resident. Thus, if you stayed 180 days in Canada under OWP, you will receive a credit of 90 days towards your count for citizenship.
