ohhh but in that case they will count 3 months waiting period from date of landing or starting date of contract? or once we get offer letter then there will be no waiting period?
In case of Open work permit 3 Months waiting is from the Start date of your JOB. e.g you Land on 01 June and your job starts on 20 June, so 3 months waiting period starts from 20 June.

1. Can only do the job with the same occupation that is specified on the work permit.

This is an open work permit so you can work in any field but only in ONTARIO . But there are some restrictions as written on Work Permit Paper :

You Can not Attend any educational institute and take any academic , professional or vocational training course. ( Which means if you want to do this then you should have Study Permit not a Work Permit. ) But if your kids have Study permit they are allowed these facilities.

Not authorized to work in Following Fields:
Child Care, Primary or Secondary School Teaching, Health Services.

It also says :
Not valid for employment in businesses related to SEX TRADE such as STRIP CLUBS, MASSAGE PARLOURS or ESCORT SERVICES.

2. Can not apply health card until I don't have the job letter from an employer.

It is not true, Having a job offer is not linked with this Work Permit because it is an Open Work permit based upon your provincial nomination. You can apply for Health Card Immediately but the coverage for health card comes into effect : 3 Months after your landing date into Canada. e.g You land in Canada on 1 January 2013 your Health Card coverage will start from 1 April 2013. You should have your private medical insurance for Initial 3 months. This same rule applies to you even if you land in canada on a Permanent Resident Visa.

3. Can not apply health card for my family until we don't have the PR.

This is wrong. Additional family members ( Spouse, Kids ) who are coming along with you in Canada on this FSW-Open Work Permit on Visitor Visa, Work Permit Visa , Student Visa are eligible for Health Cards , but this 3 Month wait is applicable to all of the cases.

I hope this answers your questions and helps in making your decesion regarding your move to Canada on OWP.

Hello Friends,
I visited Service Canada office last week . Service Canada does not allows you or your Family members to enroll for OHIP - Health Cards unless you have Full Time Job which is valid for more than 6 Months duration. They need a letter from HR Saying that you are working on Full Time employment and this employment is more than 6 months duration.

It seems that a part of income tax payment goes towards OHIP premium that is why they want a person to have a full time job with more than 6 months duration then only you are eligible for OHIP.

Moreover the 3 months waiting duration starts from the date you start your job not from the date of landing in Canada.

In case of Open work permit 3 Months waiting is from the Start date of your JOB. e.g you Land on 01 June and your job starts on 20 June, so 3 months waiting period starts from 20 June. So guys do your proper budgeting and financial planning regarding your move to Canada , I mean we need to have private medical insurance to cover up any emergency medical expenditures so keep that financial amount as backup just in case it takes long to find a full time job in Canada.

Hi all,
I read your previous comments regarding some difficulties facing people of our case (OWP) , and got little frustrated ,
My question is ,in order to get a job there , is the OWP enough to get the full time job , or should I have a PR in order to be considered for a full time job ??

Appreciate your reply

They ask you only for your Social Insurance Number (SIN). You get that number immediately upon application printed on a sheet of paper. You can apply for it in City Hall in Toronto - in the core center of downtown. After 3 weeks you receive a plastic card with the SIN. My employer had no problems whatsoever with my SIN valid for 2 years and Permanent Residence in progress.

Hope that helps.

Hi Friends,

I've also applied for Canada PR under PNP FSW Pilot. I got my first AOR in May and now I'm waiting for the 2nd AOR and MR .. etc

I've couple of questions:

1. I had to submitt my application in a hurry and the time of submitting the application, I did not have US PCC for my wife. So I submitted the application with her India PCC and my own PCC. But she has stayed in US for more than 6 months and I suppose I would need to submit her PCC eventually.
I've her US PCC now but the confusion is when should I submit:
- immediately
- wait till I get my 2nd AOR
- when they ask.
Is anyone in same or similar situation? What did you do?

2. I've travelled to US on L1 with my family. Do I need to inform them about it? My employer has not changed but transfered me to US.
Also, I want to change my mobile number to US mobile number but I want to keep my current India mailing address. How can I do it?

Again, anyone in a similar situaton? What did u do?

Thanks for answering my queries.

Regards,
canimmigrate

Hi All,

An important question regarding OHIP-Health Card for family members who follow us later on.

As per forum discussion we are only eligible for health card if we get full time job.
And the another point is 3 months waiting period.

My question is if our family members join us after few months (say 4 months) then, are they eligible for OHIP based on principal applicant?
or they have to wait for another 3 months?

In my case family members have TRV & Student visa.

Dear Hadeel1234,

It is very much Possible to get Full time job on OWP.

So plan your move properly. e.g : You might want to travel yourself alone and keep family in home country and they can join you later once you have settled every thing in Canada.

Regarding job finding on Open Work Permit vs PR : My answer is - It depends on many factors like

If you have a family/ friend's support here they can help you in settling down at new place.

Your previous work experience and skill set.

Your skill set if it is in demand and less number of people available in that skill set . If it is a rare skill set and an employer needs it then some employer might be interested to take you even if you are on OWP. If they don't need our skills and people are easily available in that skill set then they will not consider us even if we are Citizens of Canada.

I think in any part of world getting a job is demand Vs Supply and when employer thinks that he can make money by giving us employment then only they hire us. Although I heard some friends are facing challenge where some of organizations company policy says that they don't wanna hire OWP , they just wanna hire only PR's or Citizens , but I am not sure what is the percentage of such type of employers. Although some companies are hiring people on OWP but if they want a person to work on some critical system where data security and privacy requirement is very high then they do a thorough Background check to ensure that a candidate is not having any fake experience/ fake educational qualifications or any Criminal background. So if our BG is clean then we need not to worry abt that situation.

Plus it helps a lot if you have previous Canadian work experience or Canadian Studies. It is easy to find a job in Canada with previous Cad work exp. Your attitude, your soft skills and your selling skills (how well you can sell yourself ) in the job market matters.

Last but not the least your Luck factor and the Grace of almighty GOD matters a lot when all other things fail and this blessing comes to your rescue.

Wish you all the best regarding your move to Canada.

Hi,

If we go Canada on OWP & meanwhile NDVO asks for our passports for PR then what to do?

I think many forum members will face this issue in 4-5 months as PNP Nominee PR processing timeline at NDVO is 13 months. So many of us will receive calls from December onwards.

Just my thought :

They will need passport to just stamp Travel Visa on it , I don't see there is any other use of asking for passports . So if they ask for passport we can tell them that its already stamped with 2 yrs Travel visa ( Ideally they should know this and they should have devised some process around this situation because they know that they have issued us work permits ) , So they may just issue us COPR ( Confirmation of Permanent Resident ) papers. We may be able to take those COPR papers to port of entry ( By doing Flag poling - search on this forum ) and get PR / complete landing formalities there at the port of entry and start living in Canada as PR's.

It is just my thought but not sure if this is going to work in this way. Logically I do not see any reason why embassy should ask a person who is already present in Canada to to come back to home country just for the sake of stamping Visa on passport which we already have. All we will need is COPR papers. Ofcouse they will cancel our existing Travel Visa at the port of entry when they issue us PR at port of entry and then onwards we should use PR cards to enter Canada.

Exact thing only time will tell because Canada is full of surprises :) and I believe we are getting used to with these surprises for more than 7- 8 years now.
