Hi Niagra!
You can write "Applying for open work permit" i did the same and got approval and if it is numeric field you can leave it blank.

Actually i appliedfor me and my husband. He is also on H1 visa in USA. We opt the option for open work permit as well, becoz you know so many ifs and buts in H1 visa and takes too long usually for GC. Thats why my husband wants some relief and security, so i applied. Our PR application is still in process and we submitted our medical for PR application. You dont need to give your medical, once they will ask you then you can go for medicals. Otherwie in most of the cases they dont ask for medical if you are travelling from USA. You cant jump the gun, once you dont apply for the visa.
I got my approval in 45 days (approX) from Newyork Consulate.
Yes we submitted the original passports, and we both got TRVand letter for open work permit.
I would suggest to apply, atleast you ould have second option.

I am in the same boat, planning to apply for WP just need to confirm OwP for parent application and TRV for wife and Kid (is 6 yrs)

For your wife (if you dont want her to work then only TRV), otherwise both TRV and OWP.
I have no kids so no idea. But you can follow the checklist of newyork consulate, may there is some study permit.
Fee for TRV and OWP is same $150 each, either you apply only TRV for your spouse OR both.

On safer side we both applied for both TRV and OPW.

Actually i got approval in January and did not travel. I dont think that it would affect PR Process. Because it was clearly mentioned in letter that it would not affect PR process. And the work permit is valid for 2 years, so it is upto me that when i want to go.

By the way i am thinking to make an entry may be in next couple of months.

Dear all,

I have got my fee re-fund cheque today. But it is only of 700CAD. Where my application included three people (me, my husband and my daughter). In 2005 i paid 61,500PKR and now in 2013 they have re-imbursed 67,000PKR????

Whereas the latest fee submitted with PR application was 1250CAD. What sort of conversion is this???

Yes, sure. I did the same.

I am telling everything based on my own experience, not an expert view.

Below are my timelines,

1)Application Filed on Date @ Nova Scotia : 12 Dec 2012
2) 1st AOR From Canada (Date) : 29 Jan 2013
3) 2nd AOR from Newdelhi (Date): 09 Mar 2013
4) Subject Mentioned in 2nd AOR: Application for Permanent Residence in Canada
5) From which email they sent on 2nd AOR from NDVO: delhi - im- enquiry @ international . gc . ca
6) Email body or material they sent you in 2nd AOR from NDVO: They've Attached a PDF which says that NDVO has received our application for permanent residence in Canada. We will hear from them in 6 months and before this timeline we should not contact them asking for file status. Status can be checked in eCAS. We should inform them of any address, contact info change, family addition etc. The standard content they usually write.

Hope this helps. I'm sure all others who are yet to receive this will soon receive the same.
