Ontario driving test with rental vehicle

Hello.

I currently have a driving test scheduled in Ontario but I would like to take time to get familiar with a rental car rather than pay for an expensive driving school vehicle. Will I be able to use a rental car in the test or would they instantly fail me?

You can use a rental. However, depending on what license you hold and your age, you may not be able to rent a vehicle.

If you have a valid foreign license you can. Make sure to get full insurance.

I have a G1 Ontario licence. My wife has her full licence from our home country.

How long has your wife been in Canada? Is she a permanent resident? I believe there is a maximum time one can use a foreign license.

if your wife has MOVED to Ontario to reside here then her foreign license can only be used for 60 days.

If she is a visitor only then she is allowed to use it for up to 3 months.

Not sure if she is allowed to be the accompanying driver of a G1 holder though.
