Dear all, I am a Canadian citizen of Thai origin. Still single and having returned and been working to Thailand for 5 years, I am considering moving back to Canada. However, I cannot leave my parents, both 62 and retired, in Thailand whatsoever because I am their only son.

I studied CIC website and found information for sponsoring spouses or children only. It also requires that 3 of us must meet minimum annual income requirement of $33,933, which is not possible in my circumstance because I have been outside of Canada for 5 years.

However, 3 of us has a joint-savings account with a Canadian bank worth about $700,000, which has been opened since 2002.

My parents plan to sell our house in Thailand to finance our costs of living while I am finding a job and buying a house in Canada.

Will I have a chance to successfully sponsor my parents to Canada? I am very worried because we feel vulnerable to the situation in Thailand.

Thank you for your help to enlighten me on this.

Thank you for your help to enlighten me on this.

1. You have to be residing in Canada to sponsor your parents.
2. You will have to meet the low income cutoff figure from funds from Canadian sources in the year prior to the sponsorship, they will not count your parents assets.
3. If your parents sell their house where are they going to live for the 1 year to make the LICO, 34 months for approval/refusal at Mississauga, and the 24-28 months that Singapore takes to process 80% of parental applications? A total of 50 months to 54 months.

Since sponsoring parents can take a very long time, you should check if they can apply on their own. They may possibly still qualify to apply under the skilled worker program or they might be able to apply under one of the provincial nominee programs for investors if they are business oriented and don't have a problem doing a business venture in their spare time.

Thank you both very much for your helps.

I have looked into Skilled Worker category. My parents are hardly qualified because of their ages.

The point for us is how to have my parents allow them to stay with me as frequent and as long as possible for each trip to Canada while I am sponsoring them from there.

Can they get a multiple entry visit visa to Canada? It would be good to arrange that before you decide to sponsor them. Then they could always visit you. If they did get a visit visa to Canada, you could apply to extend when their 6 months are about to expire and keep them longer in Canada that way.
