I also applied outland through the Sydney office, but our SA letter said this:

"You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. Accordingly, the Application for Permanent Residence for your relative(s) has been retained for further processing at CPC Mississauga."

We went from AOR to SA in 2 days, and then I received an email from the Sydney visa office on the same day as receiving SA that says:

"Your application for admission to Canada as a Permanent Resident may now be ready to be finalised, conditional to a final admissibility review by the immigration officer.

Your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) Form(s) will be valid for your initial entry to Canada until 08/28/2015 (mm/dd/yy).

So that your permanent resident visa(s) can be issued, please submit the documents listed below:"

The documents requested are passport, updated appendix B and two immigration photos, all of which I mailed off a couple of days ago. The letter gave me two options for sending the requested information: If I was living in Canada and would be for the next three months, I could send it to CPC Ottawa. If I was living in Sydney, I could send it to the Consulate General of Canada in Sydney. I chose to follow the instructions for people currently living in Canada, which means that the information was sent to Ottawa. I'm not sure what this means in terms of processing times for my application, but considering how quickly I got to PPR I hope it means I don't have to wait through the 11-month processing time currently listed for Sydney.

FWIW, I think our application was very straightforward and I provided heaps and heaps of relationship proof. My sponsor and I have been together for four years, we have no kids, and my sponsor is on a good salary (although work is contract based and we had to provide a separate sheet to list all of his employers over the last 5 years).

My application was received by CIC on October 10th, so that "working on application received October 5th" processing time doesn't appear to be accurate.

Wasn't that a SUPERRRR fast request for passport? I thought the overall processing times was like 4-6 months outland. But yours they asked passport within 2.5months.

Maybe i am missing something here. My apologies if that is the case....

Congrats. Good that they are working. But it's still so frustrating! I hope the cpc office isn't closed for long during the Christmas and new year time.

Ellybec's application was one of the ones that were kept and processed in Mississauga or Ottowa (instead of being transferred overseas). These are happening very quickly.

Yes! It was super-fast. I was super-surprised.

I received a letter in the mail today, which says...

"You have been scheduled to appear for an interview and to receive your Confirmation of Permanent Resident Document at our office on December 19..."

Is that Confirmation of PR Document the same thing as a visa? I'm not sure where I sit in the PR application timeline at the moment. The letter is dated December 8, which means it was mailed to me the same day I mailed off my PPR documents to CIC Ottawa. The interview location is Vancouver, which is a relief, because I thought that I would have to go to Sydney to do it. On the other hand, I was sure that the interview would be waived.

The letter also says to bring to the interview my passport, two photos, proof of payment for the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, current work permit, and my common-law partner.

Thanks for the reply Ellybec, your SA letter is slightly different from ours. Yours says 'retained' our says that our application has been 'forwarded abroad', yet the office details they have in the letter are for Ottawa, not Sydney.

But you did get an email from the Sydney office?? even though your application stayed in Mississauga?

I'm hoping they'll get through ours quickly in Ottawa, but the Ottawa processing times are listed at 16 months! That's a lot worse than Sydney!

What does it mean to land?

To "land" means to activate your PR visa. After you land you are a permanent resident of Canada.

But you did get an email from the Sydney office?? even though your application stayed in Mississauga?

I'm hoping they'll get through ours quickly in Ottawa, but the Ottawa processing times are listed at 16 months! That's a lot worse than Sydney!

Yeah, the letter itself was from Sydney, but the email the letter was attached to came from Mississauga. I sent my PPR documents to Ottawa.
