Obtaining police certificates

We are going to get started with my husband's police certificates, I know he needs to get one for the US because that's where he spent most of his time from the age of 18. Does he also need one from his home country and from Canada?

He will need a certificate from any country that isn't Canada where he spent over six months since age 18.

If he has not lived in his home country for over six months since age 18, he will not need one. If he has, he will.

He will not need to file one from Canada, IRCC do their own checks with RCMP. If they cannot clear him off name, birthday etc (ie there's a known Canadian criminal with similar info), then he will be required to get fingerprinted for a Canadian police check.

Ok weird. I have actually lived in the US my whole life, once I hit 18 I came up here to live with my partner to achieve common law. The only country I have been in for over 6 months is Canada. Do you think they will request a police certificate for me from the USA?

They might request one by default - but if you haven't lived there over six months since turning 18 then their rules say you don't require one. Certainly no need to go to the trouble of getting one before you file the application.

"You must first submit your application for permanent residence or citizenship. The Canadian Embassy in Mexico will request a police certificate on your behalf after you provide all of the following:" 2 sets of fingerprints, passport size photos, passport picture page, file number.

So when do I have to provide all that?
Only when they request it?
