Hi All,

I have obtained a Canadian visa under "The simplified entry process for information technology (IT) specialists" category

I had obtained this visa three months ago and I currently reside in Bangalore, India.

I got married a month ago and would now like to apply for an open work permit for my wife.

We are both still in India.

As I understand, I will need to first get a visa for my wife and then apply for the work permit once we are in canada and my wife is able to find an employer. Is this correct? Or can the work permit be issued with an offer of employment?

What visa category do I need to apply under for my wife?
What forms / documents do I require and where can I apply?

Thanks,

Sunil

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
You need to apply for a TRV and open work permit for your wife based on your work permit. She does not need a job offer to get a permit. You can apply for the TRV initially so you can both go to Canada together and once you are in Canada, use a change of status application form to apply for her open work permit. Send a copy of your work permit along with the application.

Hi all,

Please help me with the information.
I have come to Canada last month on dependant visa along with my husband (works as a IT professional). My husband's work permit is still valid for 8 months. I have prior work experience (around 7 years in IT). I am eagarly looking to apply for Open work permit.

Please assist me on below,
1. Required documents to apply.
2. How do we apply, can we apply online?
3. How long does it take to know the status on the work permit

You can use this change of status form: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp and you can apply online. At http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#temp_res it says that change of status takes 65 days but hopefully you will get it faster.
