Not getting Car Insurance with USDL

Friends
I recently immigrated to Canada and tried applying for the drivers license. But they could not get the driving record online from MN USA and asked me to bring the driving record.I have sent a request, but it would take 2 weeks min for the process to complete.
Now I was trying to get a car but all the insurance companies are insisting on Canada Drivers license and that they will not insure with USDL. Is that correct? Do I have some other choice than waiting for the process to get the Canada DL to complete? Thank You for your time

No - that's not correct. You should be able to insure your car with American driver's licence. Try TD Desjardins (http://www.desjardinsgeneralinsurance.com/d-on/EN/Pages/home.aspx?PRV=ON&LNG=EN) . They insist on having your licence changed to Canadian within 90 days. They are also very good deal.

You could also try State Farm as they are also in the states. We had our car insurance from them and we just transferred it over. I was really afraid it would be really expensive as that is what I have read here but it is just a little over what we paid in the states.
