Generally they ask for a valid government issued ID. I don't know the old passport works or not.
As I said, my impression or recollection was that they did not ask me for any proof of residence or ID with address for purposes of confirming my address. My address (and that of child) was self-reported. Didn't matter as we were picking up anyway.
My recollection may be faulty but don't think they're 'enforcing' that aspect for passport applications in Canada. YMMV.
