Hi All,
I work as a IT consultant and have experience of almost 5 years, but my H1-B petition has been filed under Software Engineer. From my research I seem to be more egligible for NOC 2173 and also NOC 2171 as far as duties and roles in are concerned. My questions are
1. Is it okay to mention both NOC codes 2171 and 2173 in the IA-AINP_ainp009a form under the question 4: Current four digit National Occupational Classification Code?
2. Also lot of people have been appplying under NOC 2171 according the discussions in this forum, is NOC 2173 a valid code. Anyone has applied to code 2173 with success?

2171 Information Systems Analysts and Consultants
2173 Software Engineers and Designers

I would appreciate if someone can share their experience and wisdom to my concern. Thanks in advance for reading.

2173 was added recently and when many of us applied only 2171 and another code for managers was present. Thats why you can find 2171 more often mentioned. If you think 2173 job description fits your job best, then apply under that code.

This is what I found in the FAQs of the program
http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/media/h1b_FAQ.pdf

"I don’t see my job title on the Regional Occupations
Under Pressure list, am I eligible?
We do not assess your application by your job title, but rather
by your job description. To determine whether a Candidate’s
occupation is under pressure in Alberta, a Candidate should
first reference the National Occupational Classification
(NOC) website to determine the four digit NOC code that best
matches their current job description
. The Candidate should
then consult the AINP Occupations Under Pressure List
for the Strategic Recruitment Stream – U.S. Visa Holder
Category to find out if their four digit NOC code is on the list.
Please provide all of the supporting documentation requested
on the application form to assist us in determining if you are on
the above mentioned list."

In my case I am a software engineer... but when I applied in Jul/08 the only NOC available was 2171... I remember I sent a letter along with my application explaining why some of my current duties matched 2171... At the end I received my Nomination as a Software Engineer or at least that is what the approval letter stated....

I hope this helps...

Hi,

I am planning to apply for Alberta Immigration Nominee Program before April 15th and trying to the find the best suitable NOC code for my current position/title. I work as WebSphere Administrator and my title says "technology support specialist". I see 2282 best suits my job description but I don't see it under this website http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/media/h1b_AINP_Occupations_Under_Pressure_List.pdf

Can anyone please let me know if I can use the code 2282 or any other code (2281 may be)?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mohan.
