Hi,

so it is not an issue that the TA or RA is being paid via the scholarship right? I mean if a PhD candidate on Scholarship, and all they do is TA, and Research. and the contract is basically the scholarship letter for the PhD studies.

and the docs required is just the reference letter? Because now alot are adivsing to include the contract, in this case it is the scholarship letter, and the bank statment covering couple of months from the duration stated, is this true? because on the IRCC website it just says the reference letter.

I would appreciate your response on this alot.

You should try to have the university define what is your scholarship and what is paid time as a TA or research assistant outside your studies.

Hi Zain,

I would appreciate alot how did it go with you because I am in exactly the same situation! and I am not sure if TA, RA is mapped to PhD scholarship payment will work? and what documents are required.

TIA
Hi,

Well I managed get an OINP nomination based on my experience working as a research assistant and getting paid a stipend/scholarship. However, what I don’t know is that if it mattered or not because I also demonstrated other work experience for a full time job that alone was sufficient to get me the nomination.

Hey Zain,

Thanks so much for your response.

So, you have another work experience that was enough to meet the threshold, so probably on that case we don't really know if the TA or RA via a scholarship was good to meet the requirements :)

May be if the IRCC mentioned anything to you about it ?

Or if you know anyone who is in similar situation whom can help?

And congrats for the OINP really happy to hear so!

Thanks

Nop OINP didn’t ask for any explanations.

What is know for sure if that you can count this experience under work if you’re a PhD student in Canada. Otherwise if you can prove via salary slips/bank statements that you were getting paid for it and your supervisor is willing to wrote a reference letter for you there shouldn’t be any problem.

Nice , that would be the case reference letter and bank statements , my only concern is the scholarship label part of it. No need to provide scholarship letter?

If it is in Canada it can be counted for sure, is it because it is like an employment contract in Canada or other reason?

If it is in Canada it can not be counted*. Apologies.

Thats because you are probably on a study permit if you are enrolled in a doctorate programme. Experience gained while on study permit does not count according to ircc rules.

As for the scholarship label of it i guess it shouldn’t be a problem. Just a guess. But where exactly does it say that you are receiving a scholarship? The only thing ircc requires is a reference letter from your supervisor. They can always say that you are doctoral candidate performing the duties of a research assistant and being paid a certain amount of money per month.
