I am 2173, but as an engineer, the job description is not generic. It depends the type of application area you are either in or are applying to go into. Remember your experience must be in Canada. Therefore the company you work for, or the company you are going to should furnish you with their job description and duties for an automation engineer. CIC are checking your experience and relevance to the role not a generic template for a software engineer. Be careful and follow the specification laid out in the guidance notes for CEC class.

Here is the job description:

1. Analyzing client requirement and active participation with development tea m to guide software developers for building the system according to client’s requirement.
2. Design and create test plans to address business and technical use case.
3. Design and develop test scenarios, scripts and procedures to test the system
4. Design and create procedures or methods to determine product quality and release readiness.
4. Assist in reproducing and analyzing customer specific issues.
5. Provide feedback and recommendation to developers on software usability and functionality.
6. Write automation test scripts to test the system programmatically using different programming languages like java, python or ruby and using different automation tools like selenium, cucumber and analyze automated test results.
7. Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, operating systems, and network environments.
8. Develop testing plans to address areas such as database impacts, bug retests and regression testing.
9. Participate in product design reviews to participate in functional requirements and product designs.
10. Tracking bugs and issues and document the bugs using bug tracking system, and report defects to software developers.
11. Developing data to evaluate system’s performance and reliability.
12. Conduct data migration testing to ensure system’s reliability and performance after successful data migration.
13.Analyze system’s log to verify system’s performance.
