Hello all,

Congrats to everyone who has got a mail from AVO recently. All other awaiting mails, God shall make AVO contact you soonest.

To the glory of God, I and my family landed safely in Calgary on Sunday (3:00PM local time). The journey was so long but fun. Courtesy of IOM, we got a good ticket via Lufthansa from Lagos to Frankfurt and connect to Air Canada from Frankfurt to Calgary.

Landing in Calgary was a wonderful experience. The weather was fine on Sunday and I was opportuned to have three (3) families waiting for my arrival at the airport. They are all wonderful people as they waited over two (2) hours for us to finish our screening with the boarder agency and co.

The experience at the custom post was strange. The guy took time to search all our bags. He siezed our dry ponmo (so painful), ginger, maggi cubes - chicken flavor. He said they are not allowed in Canada. He also asked how much I brought and collected from me to confirm. I was amazed but i thank God thank that things were in order.

The lesson learned is that at most times, it is a good idea to ensure all necessary requirements are met. I cannot just imagine what the guy would have done if my POF was not in order. He was in to confirm the rate for that day and came out with the conversion to CAD - I still had a little above my minimum POF.

After all the screenings, the guy stretched his hand for a handshake and he said "Welcome to Canada". If I have thought of the packs of ponmo he siezed, I wouldnt have responded, but all the same, the excited was all over me. We then proceeded to reception where our family and friends were waiting to receive us. I was very excited, 3 families came with 4 cars to pick just 3 of us, it is God's glory and favor. Imagine 7 people coming to receive you to a new land!

Well, so far we have been able to get our SIN, apply for our Health Insurance and open bank accounts. We have done some shopping as well and we are still going to do more because it's snowing already. I will like to stop here for now but I promise to give you gist of other events later.

I like to thank my good friend of twenty (20) years now - Gent2 who is my host, Ma Ig, Bade who stayed with us at the airport before we went for boarding and all other forum members who encouraged us in a way or the other. By the special grace of God, everyone expecting good news from AVO will get it soon (Amen).

NB: This is a request to all my forum friends, kindly forward your numbers to this email - bidemiolaoye @ gmail.com (I dropped my phone on the plane and 'am yet to get it)

Mmmh! What an experience. Thank God that He did not allow that Officer to be a hinderance to what God has prepared for you. He will never allow His people to be put to shame. This is an evidence that God has prepared you for great things in Canada and no man can stand on your way.

Congrats on your successful landing. And to all the forum members who were there to receive you, I say thanks for your kindness. God has blessed you already.

Let the Spirit of unity continue.

Cheers.

To the glory of the God, my family and I had a safe trip to Montreal, Canada on the 28th of September, 2012. Below is the gist of the landing experience.

Our flight was via Royal Air Maroc for 6.50 am, we got to the MM airport at about 5.30am, checking in took a few minutes because we had to rearrange our baggage to max of 23kg per bag X2 allowed for each passenger (i.e. 3 plus 1 infant), luckily all our baggage scaled through with the rest carried as hand luggage without paying for extra despite all the food stuff packed i.e. elubo, garri, ogi, dried fish, beans etc to name a few. Scaling through the immigration and other officials was very brief and as soon as we were done we boarded the plane immediately.

The flight to Casablanca lasted about 4 hours and our connecting flight to Montreal was for another 4 hours which flew by in no time, again we boarded with ease and this time the flight lasted another 8 hours to Montreal, Canada. The on-board experience was cool though no movies, the meal was ok but not of the class of Emirate airline if you know what I mean.

After landing, scaling through the immigrations was easy after declaring the items in our baggage and we were referred to see the Canadian Boarder Services after picking our baggage which was intact. There were other landed immigrants so it took some time to get to our turn. We were asked whether we would be bringing in other stuff later and we answered no, we were asked to updated our address as soon as we have one for the processing of the PR cards, we were given details for other service we would need to contact for our integration process and also advised on the importance of the safe keeping of our COPR forms. There was no further check of our baggage & POF which was only declared, the officer advised that it is better to withdraw from ATM outside the airport because the withdrawal amount in the airport has been pegged to about only $300. The whole process took about 2 and half hours.
Right from the airport, picking a taxi was with a queuing system and we were gotten a van because of our plenty baggage and off we went to a hotel. We were in the hotel for two days and with the assistance of a landed senior in the person of Francomaj (simply a fantastic person) we were able to secure an apartment by Sunday (Gods favor) and moved in immediately.

Monday, we registered for our SIN and Medical Insurance (the MI was treated as having landed the whole of September, hence we have only 2 months waiting period, God's favor I guess), we were also able to open bank accounts. Tuesday, continued with other registrations as part of the integration process and getting things to get us well settled in the new apartment.

The Canadian experience has been really great, the weather is still very ok, we even had some periods of sunshine yesterday, the system works very well with the metro, buses and the general transportations system, one can easily find his way around with a map.

I'm currently playing catch up with limited internet access (currently working on having one at home), hence my congrats goes to all those that have had one form of update or the other, for all those still expecting one form of update or the other, God will make it happen soonest.

Cheers

Congrats BDX.....I canonly imagine...how wonderful it is, to have so many families welcoming you a new country....Infact they have made your integration efforts quite seamless and easy to sail through.

By God's grace, during all our turn in this forum, I pray it will be the same for us all - cool and seamless integration with close families / friends, IJNA.

Once more, congrats BDX.
