My Wife and I are new to all of this and are a little overwhelmed trying to figure it all out. Do we need to submit her paperwork at the same time that I submit my application to sponsor her?

Anyone have any general tips?

are you applying inland or outland and what visa office?

You must submit everything together.

If you haven't done so already, read the first post in the following thread:

Thanks so much,

She is currently staying with me right now and has been since May, she will be going back to Florida in mid October so we will be filing outland.

so if your applying outland everything must be sent together!. if not this will delay the process alot
and be sure to pay all the fees upfront because this will also delay your process :)

Thanks again.

Now I live in Vancouver BC and she is from Florida so does it make a difference what Visa office we send it to? We were thinking Seattle since it is closer to me but heard that it is very busy and could take more time. Is there one that is less busy than another?

Im from vancouver too :P

but im not sure how it works for outland really.
we applied outland through mexico and i know it had to go to missasauga first. than they transfered it to mexico city visa office because that is the closest one to where my spouse is from.

i would think it would be the same for us outland. but they have alot of offices so i dont really know
hopefully someone else can be more helpful :)

So we have to send it to Mississauga first?

Yes - Mississauga will then send the application to the visa office you have selected once they are finished their bit.

That brings me to my next question. In Form IMM 0008 it asks us to pick an Immigration Office to Process our request. When searching the list of visa offices on the CIC website it give me a grid, click on the U for USA.

The grid says that the left option is for PR Visas, but the option East of the Mississippi is the CPP-O which is the processing pilot center in ottawa?!! Is that right even though it's under the US choices?!
My head hurts lol

CPP-Ottawa is now the main processing centre for American nationals, yes.

Ok next question- (This is lindsay, the american asking)

On form IMM-5669 Question 8 wants to know what I've been doing in the last 10 years, employment, traveling etc. I don't think I have employment records from when I was 22, I know what years I worked where but not the months. I can request a copy of my employment history from the Social Security office but that can take 4 months, and we don't have four months. Do you guys think I can get away with guesstimating the month?

Welcome!

Do the best you can (old bank statements may help) and for those months you can't determine use *'s and then add a note on a separate sheet of paper with an explanation. Just make sure to put your name and date of birth (and UCI number if you have one and know it on each additional sheet of paper).

BTW, there's some FAQs over at the US thread http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/thread-for-outland-buffalo-applicants/-t106068.0.html;msg1489429#msg1489429 that may help.
