You never know how the situation turns out to be. But we all hope it should ease out much earlier than that. Oh I just wish everything returns to at least 50% normalcy by April......
The new variant is the reason:

A petition signed by Canadian virologists, epidemiologists, doctors and public health officials describes the new, more contagious variants as “a clear and present danger to Canada’s health security and economic well-being,” warranting a much tougher response from Ottawa.

How is it affecting September students ? we are still in January and there are about 8 months. i don't think Canada will keep travel restrictions for 8 months.
I hope it doesn't affect anyone. Students should be exempt if their institution is on the DLI list.

Anyone have more info about this?
They haven't announced any new restrictions as of now, so the below hold good presently:

Travel exemptions and restrictions for international students
To be able to enter Canada as a student, you must meet 2 requirements:
  1. You must have a valid study permit or a letter of introduction that shows you were approved for a study permit.
  2. You must be attending a designated learning institution (DLI) with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by its province or territory.
You must meet these 2 requirements whether you’re studying for 6 months or less or you’re enrolled in a longer study program.

If you’re already studying in Canada and you leave, you won’t be able to return to Canada if your DLI isn’t on the approved list.

Your travel to Canada may be considered essential (non-discretionary) if you have all of the required documents and your DLI is on the approved list.

More here:

https://www.cp24.com/news/trudeau-suspending-travel-down-south-will-require-all-incoming-travellers-to-quarantine-in-hotels-1.5287360

All incoming foreign flights will now only be permitted to land in four locations; Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary, where testing and hotel quarantine capabilities will be set up.

All incoming essential travellers at Canada’s land borders with the United States will also soon have to present a negative result from a PCR test before being allowed entry.

----

Trudeau said that among other measures, all arrivals to Canadian airports will have to pay out of pocket to quarantine in a hotel before being allowed to circulate freely in the country.

All arrivals will also have to undergo PCR COVID-19 testing and then isolate in “an approved hotel” for up to three days while they wait for their result.

Trudeau said the cost of this hotel quarantine stay will be “more than $2,000” per traveller.

Those who test negative will then be allowed to return to their home or other final destination and complete the rest of a 14-day quarantine under “increased surveillance.”

Can foreign nationals register to study at a Canadian institution and simply do it online considering what is going on with COVID restrictions?

Thank you!

Does this new restrictions apply to Family reunification? They mentioned all travellers but did not specify the exemption list.

First of all they tool so long to process family reunification applications and now they are adding additional cost of hotel quarantine on us. This doesn’t make any sense.

Canada will do what they deem is most appropriate for the safety of the country. If we want to be part of their beautiful country, then we must abide by their laws, rules and regulations.

They're discouraging travel of any type...that's when it makes sense. Particularly becasue of the new dangerous variant, and vaccines roll out delay
