Hi all,

I apologize if this is a common question I didn't see anything that particularly applied. My wife has been a permanent resident since September of 2021. We had a honeymoon planned for January but with the backlog at the IRCC her card has yet to be processed. We've recently decided that the best way to go about this now is to combine the honeymoon with a planned trip back to Brazil to see her family, where she would then apply for a PRTD. I was excited about this until I looked at the application which seems to have a lot of calculation to see if we met the residency requirements, which she obviously will not come close to.

Is there a difference in the evaluation of new PR's and long term PR in terms of that residency requirements? Has anyone gone through this process as a new PR, and am I risking stranding my wife by even going ahead with this? Any advice would be appreciated.

She is a new PR so there is no expectation that she meet the residency obligation. She'll have no issue getting the PRTD. The only "issue" may be the wait to get it processed.
