dont be confused....just land normally and provide ur friends address to the officer. they will never ask you whose address is this or how long you are going to stay there or do you have any return ticket. I landed on 25th april provided my cousin's address and thatz all...simple. guod luck

This is the risk you might be taking if the officer notices that you will be staying in Canada for a short period of time. Just keep it simple at the borders and don't mention you are staying here temporarily

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob491.asp

"However, where there are clear indications that the initial entry into Canada was only of short duration and the client provided a third party address for the purpose of forwarding their initial PR Card outside of Canada, these cases should be flagged with a note indicating that the client is outside Canada, and if relevant, the fact that the photo retake was done outside Canada and submitted to produce the first PR Card along with the date this information is recorded."

You should be fine, but it's always good to know the rules :)

Thanks for your quick response! I'm a bit confused though; plz correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying that we are not supposed to reveal the name of the person residing in the address we are giving to the officer? Just the address and that's that? Because if we do, the officer, having found out we don't live in the address we have provided, might decline from mailing the PR card there? But, isn't this a bit strange? I mean how on earth I'm supposed to own an address under my name when I've landed there for the first time?! Plz advise...Thanks so much

Thanks to both of you dear Ashikn & SKguy! And you're right, it's really good to know the rules and this link clearly touches on my case here as if it's written for me :D Now I wonder if there are any forms I need to fill in before landing in which I have to write the duration of my stay or it's just the officer shooting the question at newcomers on a random basis? In the latter case I just have to be lucky enough for my officer not to ask the question ;D And what's this "photo retake" and the fact that it "was done outside Canada" really mean? :-[ I've heard we'll be photographed upon arrival and that photo will go on the PR card; I assume this is another wrong piece of information then, right?

Don't worry about the picture or officer's questions I dont think he/she would ask so many details. On the plane there will be the costumes declaration form. Answer it truthfully. Just don't mention you are coming for a short stay

Dear All,

Allhamdulilla, today I have received my PR cards (mine & my wife) at 1pm canadian time. Though I am outside of Canada, but my cousin received it.

For your kind info, I have landed 25th of April, so after 92 days I have received my cards. I hope those who have landed on week 4 of April, will get their PR cards by a day or two.

Thanks all for your updates, and wish you good luck.

Hi,

I did this mistake, I informed the officer in landing that this is for short landing. He informed me to stay longer and take the PR card before leaving or the whole process will have to be restarted. I gave him my friends address and he mentioned that the card may not come to my friends address and that I should update my address after I move into my own home.

I am now worried and not what I should do now?

Please help me, I am leaving from Toronto next week.

Thanks,

If I were you, I wont leave till I resolve it. I have read the whole Operational Bulletin 491 and apparently they can consider your application as "abandoned" if you dont provide them with a permanent mailing address (Refer to Appendix A letter).

It would be not a bad idea to consult with a knowledgeable lawyer. CIC know now that your stay is short, so it will challenging for you to prove otherwise unless you actually stay.

Thanks God, I landed in Canada at Toronto on 13th of July and spend about 15 days in Mississauga, enjoying a lot.

There is one little confusion and need you experts advice on this. When i checked my address, the residence address is showing my Canadian correct address (my friend's home address). However, the mailing address still shows my Saudi PO Box address. Will the PR cards be sent to my Residence address or to the Mailing address which is wrong? Should I update my mailing address and make it the same as the Residence address?

Finally, thanks a lot for the valuable advice I received from this forum before heading for Canada, specially the following great posting by qorax

Hi,

Me and my family landed at Vancouver on 5th May 2015. Gave one of my relatives address in Toronto to mail the PR cards. Then I came back to US where I work on H1. After 80 days my relative received a mail with 3 PR cards which belong to some one else's ( 3 Philippines nationals). Has anyone faced such a situation? I tried to contact the CIC toll free number ( 888 242 2100 ) but could not reach the number from USA. Does any one know any number / contacts which we can call from USA? Any help is appreciated .. :(

From USA you can call 6139444000 and then from the menu you can transfer your call to CIC , Good luck
