Hi All,

Hello all. I received an ITA on 30th of Oct 18 and i have joined a new company from 2nd of Nov 2018. I have two queries:

1. Is it mandatory to declare this job as well in the PR application?
2. Also, it is almost impossible to get a reference letter as I am new in the organization. Is there an alternative to the reference letter, if I do have to mention this job.

Please let me know as I have only 2-3 weeks to arrange for all the documents

1. Declare it in personal history section not work history.
2. No reference letter required

1. I doubt you're going to be using this new position to claim more points, so no, you won't include it in work history section. However, if you still haven't submitted your application, and because it's a new activity, do mention it in Personal Activity section. You'll just tick the box "Ongoing".
2.Because you've been there for just a few days, I doubt it gives you any points at all. In which case no need to mention in work history, and therefore no reference letter required.

Thank you so much for such a quick response, this is a great relief. For the rest of the organizations, I will need a reference letter on the company letter head itself right? Or even experience letters work?

Also, can we take a reference letter from an ex-colleague?

Thank you so much for a quick response. Yes, this would in no manner add to my points. So, I shall just declare it under Personal activity and not report it under work history

One small query i forgot to post earlier, is it essential to update the "end date" in my work history section, as I had mentioned "current job" while submitting the express entry profile. Please let me know.

That, yes. Do update.

this is the excerpt from CIC's website about the reference letter/proof of work:

The following documents are mandatory for each work experience declared:

  • a reference or experience letter from the employer, which
    • should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant’s name, the company’s contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
    • should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits;
Reference letter from colleague isn't the recommended way, the recommended and the best way is reference letter as per above guidelines.

Thanks once again! The experience letters that I have from my previous organizations do not mention my job responsibilities or no. of hours per week. In that case, I will have to compulsorily get the reference letters right?

Yes.

Ok, thanks a lot. Can anyone send me a standard reference letter format?
