either u remain calm and happy with HOPE or u dwell into sadness its your choice ....its a very difficult situation in our lives rt now.....just believe that we gonna make it very soon..........whenever something bad happens be happy coz only after the bad good comes :)
thanks for keeping positive vibes in the forum.... but People are waiting since last year....i have seen people changing from Positive to negative attitude...it is really frustrating....if u r attached to your soul mate then living apart each and every second kills you.....they are not sad by choice but because of life crises they are facing now......if you read the previous post not by choice some are facing the family pressures, not able to concentrate on careers and personal lives...getting into depression...No one like to be like this ....i hope strike will be over soon and people will get their visas in matter of days (We Wish)... Don't forget this strike also creating the backlog which will further delay the process... Wedding season is around the corner and we are expecting more people will be putting their files soon.

it is not the CDN dollar strong... but it is the Rupee which is weak due to new RBI rate...

CDN dollar is getting weaker against US dollar because US economy is picking up and inflation in Canada is going up.

30 July 2013 - Canadian Foreign Service Officers to Picket the Prime Minister’s Office to Protest Government's Rejection of Binding Arbitration
In their 18th week of job action, Canadian Foreign Service Officers in Ottawa will hold a mass picket outside the Prime Minister’s Office (Langevin Block) at 80 Wellington Street on Tuesday, July 30th from 11:30am to 1:30pm to show their profound disappointment at the Government's refusal to enter into binding arbitration to resolve this labour dispute.

“PAFSO has made every reasonable effort to resolve this situation, including by accepting three of the six preconditions the Government sought to impose on a free arbitration process,” said PAFSO President Tim Edwards. “Treasury Board’s other preconditions were so paralyzing that they would have predetermined the outcome in the Government’s favour. Minister Clement’s rejection of arbitration on July 26 shows he is not interested in a fair contest. It should now be evident to all Canadians that the Government bears sole and complete responsibility for the severe and mounting impacts of this strike – on tourism, on education, and on the agricultural sector.”

The Canadian Foreign Service has been without a contract since June 2011. The issue at hand remains PAFSO's request for equal pay for equal work. Specifically, the union is seeking wage adjustments to keep Foreign Service officer pay in line with comparable employment groups in the federal government, including lawyers, economists, policy analysts, and commerce officers, who perform the same work – often side-by-side with Foreign Service officers. At present, Foreign Service officers are paid $3,000 to $14,000 less per year. One of Minister Clement’s preconditions was to disallow PAFSO from making these arguments to the arbitrator.

The Government has reached tentative agreements in two other long-outstanding contract negotiations during the last month, and returned to the table yesterday to address a third. PAFSO is one of the smallest unions in the federal government. Equal pay for our members could be achieved for $4.2 million over a three-year contract – 1.5% of the impact this strike is having on the tourism sector alone. PAFSO can only conclude that the Government is behaving prejudicially toward the Foreign Service and is therefore negotiating in bad faith.

“Our offer of binding arbitration still stands, including with the three preconditions we accepted,” said Mr. Edwards.

hopefully this will work out

Can we all pls stay on topic! Pls try to contact local MP's to pressure the govt to come back to the table and re-nego the contract. Change to cdn dollar has nothing to do with the union's strike position and will not affect it's outcome.

Diplomat strike risks 'severe' economic impact

Foreign service officers at 15 of Canada's busiest visa application centres abroad walked off the job Monday as part of their ongoing strike action that the union says is causing a "severe" and growing economic impact.

The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers started rotating job action at the international visa offices in the spring, but with no resolution in sight to the contract dispute, it has decided to do a co-ordinated walkout at the 15 offices at the same time. They will be off the job until further notice.

Tim Edwards, president of PAFSO, said the withdrawal of visa services involves about 150 employees. They process 10,000 to 20,000 visas per week between the 15 offices, which include major cities such as Mexico City, London, Beijing, Cairo, Paris and Delhi.

"It's a massive flow," he told CBC News. Tourists, international students, businesspeople and temporary foreign workers are all affected by the withdrawal of services.

"A lot of them will not be able to get their visa. If they do it will be severely delayed," said Edwards.

Tourism associations have estimated the strike could cost the industry at least $280 million this summer and they have urged the two sides to quickly settle their dispute.

The education sector is also concerned about students not getting their visas in time to start their school year in Canada and about them applying elsewhere to study because of the hassle. Some associations have said the strike could damage Canada's reputation and that even after the strike is over students may be turned off of coming here because of the visa trouble. International students are estimated to pump $8 billion into Canada's economy every year.

Monday's escalated job action comes after PAFSO and Treasury Board Tony Clement failed to agree on the union's offer to go to arbitration. The government said it would only go to arbitration if the union accepted six conditions attached to it. One of them was that the union not make wage comparisons with other public service employees at the table. The government wanted the conditions kept confidential but the union disclosed some of them on Friday.

PAFSO responded that they couldn't accept that condition since fighting for "equal pay for equal work" is the precise reason they are on strike. Edwards said foreign service officers are trying to close the wage gap with other government workers who do the same jobs working as policy analysts, economists, lawyers or other positions but get paid more.

PAFSO said it would accept three of the conditions, but Treasury Board said it had to accept them all.

"We are disappointed that the union has refused our reasonable offer," a spokesman for Clement said Monday. "Our government is committed to bargaining in good faith, unlike the union, which has breached good faith bargaining principles by releasing confidential negotiating documents."

Citizenship and Immigration Canada said all visa offices remain open and are providing service. The department has hired temporary staff to process applications. It is training existing staff from the department on an urgent basis so they can work on visas and some staff are working overtime.

"CIC is also shifting more work to Canada and to overseas offices that have additional capacity," a spokeswoman for immigration minister Chris Alexander said.

The department is urging people who need a visa to apply as early as possible.

Frankly speaking at this point I don't care who wins and whose demands are met or not...All I care is that someone should take the responsibility and start working on our files...so if what is highlighted in the article above is true and really happening then I am a little relieved...and would really like to see some good news coming our way...

Good luck to all of us...Hope this waiting period ends soon. God bless us all !!!
