Hi,

I am just curious to know of any existing possibility to apply for Canadian Passport from one's home country after successfully receiving citizenship certificate? For example, if the applicant's Canadian citizenship application is approved and he/she finally takes the oath and receive the certificate, but due to some unavoidable reasons, travels back to his home country (India), is it possible to apply for Canadian Passport from his home country?

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/new-adult-passport-abroad.html

I checked further in detail about the services offered by High Commission of Canada in India, in New Delhi, and it clearly provides option of taking appointment for citizenship applications and passport services-

https://www.international.gc.ca/country-pays/india-inde/new_delhi-info.aspx?lang=eng#CS

Also in the first link, its explicitly mentioned in the required documents

"" proof of Canadian citizenship
  • This can be a birth certificate or citizenship certificate.
    • It must be the original document (not a photocopy). ""
Well, if in the citizenship application, someone selects a digital copy (of citizenship certificate) then how can one submit the original?

Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

If your home country is India, please research on it because

1. You are entering and exiting with two different passports.
2. When you arrive, you are technically not an Indian. So what's you immigration status and FRRO reporting requirements?
3. Do you need any exit clearance from FRRO?

As from the below link :

Ministry of External Affairs (eoi.gov.in)

(see last section 6 on the end) one can travel on Indian PP 3 months from the date of acquiring foreign citizenship.

"A grace period of three months is allowed from the date of acquisition of foreign citizenship, for the purpose of travel on Indian passport. Therefore, no penalty will be leviable for travel on Indian passport within three months of acquisition of foreign passport. "

As for the FRRO requirements etc, am not sure.

Just looking to see if someone had any similar situation and successfully received foreign passport in India?

Thanks.
