[glow=red,2,300]About Edmonton[/glow]

Quality Lifestyle

With over a million people, Greater Edmonton offers all the convenience and choice of a big city in an environment of open spaces and fresh air. We’re proud of our clean, safe neighbourhoods. Lower average house prices mean people here are able to own a home at a younger age than in other Canadian cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. Taxes are lower here, too.

Health care is provided for all Albertans, and Edmonton’s Capital Health region has been ranked number 1 in Canada for 5 years in a row. Learn more about health care in Edmonton through the stories of people who've experienced it at www.edmontonstories.ca.

Edmontonians come from all over the world. Each summer, our Heritage Festival celebrates more than 60 cultures. In fact, we’re known as Festival City, because Edmonton hosts over 30 colourful, entertaining festival events every year. Learn more about the Heritage Festival through the stories of people who've experienced it at www.edmontonstories.ca.

Quality Work

There are all kinds of opportunities for new Edmontonians to get a good job and to get ahead. Likewise, manysmall businesses flourish here.

EEDC is focusing on Edmonton’s knowledge-based economy. We’re committed to promoting innovation and productivity to enhance individual income and quality of life.

Have a look at the job opportunities available now.

If you are moving to Canada from another country, you must go through the Canadian Immigration process.

To begin working, you must get a Canadian Social Insurance Number.

Quality Education

From primary school to post-graduate programs, Edmonton has a stellar education system.

Parents can choose from a number of options for their children’s early education. Ten different post-secondary institutions offer diverse choices for young adults. Grant MacEwan University is the largest in Western Canada. The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology trains more apprentices than any other institute in Canada. The University of Alberta is one of the world’s top research universities.

If you need to improve your English, several schools offer courses in English as a Second Language.

Driving and Public Transportation

There is an efficient freeway system, roads are of good quality, and traffic is light compared to most of the world’s large cities.

Because of the city’s size, most people get around by private transportation. To drive a car, van, or truck, you need a driver’s license and registration and insurance for your vehicle.

The City of Edmonton operates public transportation across the city, a network of buses plus a light rail transit line.

Taxis can be hailed on major streets, but phoning for taxi service is recommended.

There are bicycle and walking trails throughout the river valley. A good number of cyclists use the roads. They are required to follow the same rules as other traffic.
•Alberta Motor Vehicles provides information about driving, vehicle registration, insurance, and safety
•To Apply for an Alberta Driver’s License

Edmonton International Airport provides helpful information on flights, parking, ground transportation, general travel, and an airport guide.
