NEEEED URGENT HELP: Child out of status in Canada!! What to do???

Hi everyone,

I have been living in Canada as a temporary worker since over a year ago. My son was dependent on my work permit and did not need a visa (as American citizen) and the officer in the airport only wrote a note on my work permit saying he can attend school in Canada as long as I have valid status in Canada.

2 months ago or so I realized that his health insurance cannot be extended as he has been allowed to stay in Canada only for a year accompanying me. And after the first year is over, I had to apply for a visitor visa for him.

I tries to apply for a visitor visa for him today online. But in my CIC account I got the message that his status has been expired more than 90 days ago and he can not stay in Canada!

What should I do now?
Pleeeeeeaaaase help.

It's too late to restore his status from within Canada because the 90 day period has passed.

He needs to fully exit Canada and then re-enter.

Do you know if me and him will be in trouble in future regarding staying in Canada? I am going to apply under Express Entry and right now have a valid work permit. My son is and American citizen.

I am so worried that this will make big problems for us in future.

Also, can he fly out of Canada and immediately come back, or he has to stay out of Canada till his visitor visa application is approved?
