hi All,

I Need to send Passport to ottawa, worried about impending canada post strike, not sure what I can do..

Ottawa CPC has asked that I must attach a canadapost expresspost envelope for return so not sure how to avoid this.
I will at least send via FEDEX..

any guidance guys ?

thanks

Maybe call CIC and see if they might work with a Fedex prepaid return setup? The potential postal strike looks like it won't be a fast solution. One of the articles even has the audacity to say that Canada post want to eliminate the home delivery service. It sounds like a giant mess at the moment. :/

"Canada Post services may be interrupted
If a mail disruption does take place, check our website before you apply. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available."

That's what they have on the CIC website. Not sure how you should go about sending your passport in still. I would suggest the same as IsAJo said.

I'm on a similar boat. Sent in my passport Thursday via canada post express so I am not worried about it getting TO Ottawa ( their expected day is Monday, so probably Tuesday or wednesday will get there lol). However, with the 10 or so day to process getting my COPR and passport stamped, it will definitely be past July 2nd when ottawa VO is ready to send it back.

I sent in a return xpresspost as requested on the email I received and now wondering if I should have sent in a fedex or ups envelope as well.... biggest thing I am afraid is that my visa's expiry date could fall within the time before I even receive my passport back... my medicals were done last April. When they extend your medicals, how long is it usually extended for?

they will extend your copr enough that you don't have to worry. how long is hard to determine.
there seems to be mention of the strike on the cic website, so that means they are at least aware of it. i would hope and think they would get in touch with you about an alternative if something should happen. i can't imagine they want to be responsible for losing dozens or hundreds of passports because of a stike beyond their control.

hi Guys,

sent my passport via FEDEX last Saturday was delivered this morning to Ottawa CPC. I attached canada post express post envelop only.

still hoping canada post wont go on strike next week.

should I send an email to CPC Ottawa asking for expedited processing or I wait till Thursday and see if canada post will go on strike and then send an email.

Any suggestions guys..

Talked to my mailman this morning, he said that he really doesn't think it will happen and that they actually came out with a very good offer today.

Hope there's no interruptions in the mail service.

Crossing fingers for a good outcome for Canada Post (and no strikes) :) Thanks for asking ImABule

The offer that Canada Post put in on Saturday was not well received by the unions, so a strike is still possible.

A new offer came out today.

seems like strike is still a strong possibility

I've seen zero evidence, in the news or otherwise, of a new offer today. One was made Saturday, the union replied Sunday. If there's been a new offer today, no one's saying anything about it publicly.

Well, I can't say anything about that.

Other than the fact that my mailman is a really nice guy and when I asked him about it he went to his truck and showed me the paper that was dated today and stated what they were offering.
