Hi Everyone,

I have received my COPR which will expire in May 2018 and hence I want to make a short trip to Canada before it expires. So I will be landing in Canada on 30th March 2018. But before I do that I have a few questions, I have found multiple answers for them, but not sure what exactly should I do. Please help -

a. Is short landing legal? Can I tell the immigration officer that I am in Canada just for a week but I will plan to move back in few months? But If he can start my PR card process and send it to my friend's place.

b. Can I hide this short landing thing from them and ask them to send my PR to my friend's place as I don't have a permanent address right now?

b. Is it ok if I say that I will be here for sometime but will have to travel back to completely wrap up from my home country i.e. India. So I may travel during this period while my PR is being processed.

c. As COPR is valid for only one entry, is there a way I can do multiple entries without a PR card.

d. Do I have to carry sufficient cash with me? Is it ok if I show my Proof of Funds in the form of attested bank documents?

e. What can I do in the span of one week I am there as far as the processes are concerned?

e. From Canada I am travelling to US for a personal visit? I hope it is ok to do that if I have a valid US visa?

It will be great if you all can answer my queries. Thanks a ton :)

1 - Yes.
2 - No need to hide it.
3 - They couldn't care less.
4 - You can use your again COPR to enter from the US on a private vehicle. If you are travelling by plane you will need to apply for a PRTD.
5 - Yes, you can show your bank statements if they ask for POF.
6 - Get your SIN.
7 - Sure.

Your answers really help. Just a leading question about PRTD. The PRTD has a residency obligation parameter. Will that apply for me as well? What can I prove to show that I will come back to canada and will fulfill 730 days stay requirement.

Actually the first 5 years..they assume you could complete the requirements.. unless you don't have enough days to do so (i.e. less than 730 days remaining on your presence)

@tomlee1986 Any idea with validity of PRTD document? Means, if i apply now, should i get that in few weeks and what would be normal entry validity. (does that has any short expiry date or so?)

You should ask the VAC or relevant consulates/embassies. Processing times varies from office to office. Some takes as little as 4 days and others to 2 months. Some PRTD has multiple entries for 2 years.
