Need Help: Spousal PR – Received COPR Number but IRCC Asking to Be in Canada for PR Portal

Hi everyone,

I applied for Spousal PR for my wife. She is in India and has never travelled to Canada.Recently, her COPR number started appearing in the IRCC tracker, but the application status still shows “In Progress”.

A few days ago, she received the following PR Portal email requesting details. She replied with all the information. After that, IRCC again emailed saying that she needs to be inside Canada for them to open the PR portal.

But she does not have any visa to enter Canada. I’m confused about what to do now.

• Should we reply back and ask them for the COPR letter?
• Will she automatically get the COPR document later?
• What normally happens in outland spousal applications when COPR number appears but the applicant is outside Canada?

Yes, you need to contact them and make clear that she is NOT in Canada and has no visa or similar, i.e. she will need the physical passport request to submit passport in [country where she is.]
