National Identity Document?

So IMM 0008 asks for a national identity document - I am a US Citizen. In the states I did not have a driver's license nor a state identification card, I just used my passport for just about everything and had no issues. Would a birth certificate work for this? Or would I just need to put down that I don't have a secondary form of national identity aside from my passport?

I have a question related to this, we put my American hubby's non driver license/state ID as the national identity document. Will adding this cause return?
