May 2012!
My husband and I have about 200 photos from the 3 ten day long visits we have had together...I could narrow them down and probably should...

What is a good amount of pictures to send in?

Is it irritating to the visa officers to send in a bunch? Helpful or hurtful to the application?

Also, do we get the stuff we send in mailed back to us? or is all of our evidence kept?

All of mine are photos taken on my digital camera and printed out at a photo center..I have them all saved on discs and my computer...they were just exspensive, other items like greeting cards we have, have sentimental value...I guess I could send copies...but its not a big deal..its worth it if the interview gets waived

My pics were all on my digital camera ...i put the photos together myself and printed them myself ...saved a load of money ...the greeting cards, i took them into an office supply store and copied both front and inside on both sides of the paper so i could keep the cards ...a little pricey but they were of sentimental value to me ...

i send in copies and where told to submit originals
i then went to Japan Camera and got over 1000 pictures done (Wedding, Engagement, Trips etc)

some VO are stingy about having to be originals and some are not

It depends on your situation. Applicants from America and other 'first-world' countries need less evidence than people from 'third-world' countires. Someone who is very similar to his/her partner needs less evidence than someone who is very different. Relationships that are unusual in any way need more evidence.
So if you and your husband have only been together for 30 days, I would suggest you need to send more photos than a couple who has been together longer. If you have other red flags - such as a big age difference - or very little proof of contact other than these visits, you should also send in more.

Lots of people have sent in 200 photos or more. You could cut the number by not sending many photos of the same event, though. For example, if you have 10 photos of the two of you at Niagara Falls, just send one or two.

Along with pictures of you both together they also really want to see pictures of you in group situations. Pictures of you both or alone with each others families and friends show that your relationship is known to close people in your life.

He's 23, I'm 22...same race, both not religious, i'm american...I was thinking of sending lots of photos though since I don't have phone/text records....we talk for hours daily on a voice over IP server on the computer, it's free...so there's no record of it...we have other evidence, but our pics are good...I will narrow them down a bit though...we've also been together over a year now...It's not a huge time frame...but longer then many

Without a lot of communication evidence, then sending lots of photos is a good idea.
Are you sure you can't get proof of the computer communication? I know with Skype at least, it is possible to print out a record.
