NAME CHANGE PURGATORY

My partner is a PR. He is currently in the middle of changing his name. He received a letter saying that his original PR card, with the name he is in the process of changing, is now invalid.

While this is all happening, we have just been invited to an all expense paid family event in Cancun in 8 days. Obviously, we REALLY want to go.

Would he be able to use this 'invalid' PR card that expires in 2022?
Would it still serve as sufficient identification to travel with?

If this is crazy wishful thinking on my part, I hope you understand. We have twins who just turned 1 and we could reeeeeaaaallly use some R & R.:)

Is there any other government agency that we could appeal to to get him documentation on an urgent basis to try and salvage this trip?

ps. He is originally from Syria and his Syrian passport is expired.

He would also need to apply for an RTC and Mexico must be willing to let him in with the RTC. You'll have to check with the Mexican embassy.

How exactly was he planning to travel to Mexico without a valid passport or travel document?

Assuming he can't get a Syrian passport, he would need a Certificate of Identity to travel. Unless you live near Gatineau and can apply in person for urgent processing, it takes several weeks to get one. You would also need to check if Mexico even accepts the certificate for entry.

Just out of curiousity how long does it take to get your new PM card afterbyou mail in all the required documents?
